Oh no! That thing was awesome! My boss is a huge Ford guy, owns a lot. He always said that was Ford's best engine. Too many bad experiences with the diesels.

He's working in a f100 solid body track car. Taking the body from an old delivery van and building a tube chassis with crown Vic front ifs and the 4.6 out of a grand marquis... I think... It might be the 5.0... Anyway it's going to be badass.

 

We put a 15' flatbed on it. Crew cab. It wasn't great... Around 12-15.

Picked up a trailer this weekend from a local guy on one of those Facebook for sale pages. Hopefully I got a good deal. At least I think I did.

Guy owns his own electrical business and used it for a bit of that and for what I really needed it for, to get a ton of pellets. The one I've been using worked but didn't give me a "safe" feeling because it's basically a snowmobile trailer (square and without gate and side rails). Going to try to sell it now.

He purchased it at Tractor Supply, according to the title back in 2013. It's a 5x10 with a 1 foot extension in the front. Rated for 2,340 lbs of load. New he said it was $1,100.00 or so, and I bought for $700.00

Nothing wrong with it. Seems like it's in great shape. Wood floor looks fine.

 

Nice! I'd repack the bearings at the very least and make sure they turn freely when you have them in hand. That's the first thing I do with any new trailer, it's cheap and easy to do.

 

Good idea. Better safe then sorry. How hard is it to do for a complete noob like myself, and not very mechanically inclined?

The difference is that the one I have, in the front, it's "open" and has that 1 foot extension.

That video shows how to repack front and rear bearings. If the front bearing that you can get at is in really good shape with plenty of grease, you might be able to get away with not repacking the rear one if you don't want to remove the rear seal. The important part is, do not overtighten the nut when everything goes back together or you'll overheat the bearings and they'll fry. I tightened them by hand only then back off to the nearest hole for the pin. Take it for a drive afterwards, get it up to speed and stop to check the hubs. If the trailer's hubs are hot, you have the bearings too tight and you need to back off the nut another hole.

Oh boy, I need some help talking me out of a purchase... SOS listed a group buy for bumpers and I'm lusting over one for the rear. I'd loose the factory receiver but would keep it in the basement just in case I ever buy a heavier trailer. Light stuff like the log splitter and quad could easily be towed by the integrated hitch. Sooo, help this guy out and talk me out of buying a bumper...

OK, help me splain to wifey why I need this and how it would complete my life if I got it...

Actually, I'm on the fence over loosing the factory hitch just in case I need it in the future. You know, if I ever get an offer to tow a Kubota around just for show.

Edit: FWIW, I'd have to get an ARB front bumper to match.

Edit #2: Gotta get heated tow mirrors too.

 

Just thinking out loud here, but I'm pretty sure you came to the wrong group for talking you out of truck accessories. Especially one as crucial as a bumper. I mean, how many times in life have you heard 'protect your ass'? You'd be doing exactly that.

 

Trying to explain things like this to your wife, here is all you need to know:
It is easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

 

It seems she and I both use that one.
