i asked if there was evidence of paint work, they said no. i get there and clearly the front bumper had been painted and not very well. i called my body guy, said between 600-900 to repair and respray. they wouldn't move on the price of the car, and gave me attitude. i told them i was all set and i was leaving and i wanted my deposit back. they said i can't get it until the owner gets in at 2pm. so i'm at enterprise right now, waiting for a car. i have to go back at 2 to get my money and talk to the owner. i don't trust them to mail it to me so i'm making them cut the check for me

Very cool. A group of guys from my office take a week off every year to do the Allagash but it never coincides with when I can take time off. It's supposed to be pretty awesome. How were the horseflys?

Agreed. Frying seafood just wrecks it. Especially most places with 3lbs of breading.

Heads up all...Staties are in a heavy revenue generation mode...I saw 3 people pulled over on 495S today and I was passed by a Mass State Police SUV with 2 officers...the one in the passenger seat had the plate scan Laptop out and they were scanning the plates from the left lane as they crawled by at 72mph...
They must all be trying to close out the quarter and the month and with a holiday weekend nobody wants to be stuck doing all that paperwork!

I have a work team building event tomorrow at Gillette stadium. It should be pretty fun. We have full access to the entire stadium. It's just going to suck waking up so early so I don't sit in traffic .

Ouch, that sucks! I'm sorry to hear that. I bet they figured if you got out there, there's no way you'd walk away but good on you for telling them to F off.

Looks like there's been some cancer surgery on the driver's side... otherwise a pretty solid looking truck--hence the price I guess

Nice! That's on my list some day. I drove the Golden Road a few years ago and that was neat too.

Same here. I get three weeks by myself. Not really a good thing, though, since I get along with mine great and it means I have both his projects and mine to deal with. Long days!

Yeah, not bad. Anything that old with a plow on it is going to have had some rust work done if it's still on the road, haha!

Friends have a clambake at their cabin every year. Seaweed is harvested at the Cape Cod Canal and then brought up in a dump truck. Nothing beats it, i ate so much i almost died.
Horsefly's weren't bad on chamberlain lake until we stopped by the water, then they moved in wouldn't leave the dog alone. He was snapping at them and probably ate a dozen. I would probably bring a bug hat next time. The kennebec was bug free surprisingly.

Golden Road was neat crossing over the rivers and watching white water rafters go by. Where we got on Silas hills road was the part that was a bit white knuckle (in a forester at least). Very hard pack with decent sized sharp rocks all over. Scraped and banged the bottom on the big rocks. Without the Fullsized spare i would probably come in from Millinocket. Although im sure the roads change each year and after they grate them.

I went in from Millinocket, killed a day driving the Golden Road out to the Canadian border, then Greenville Road out to Moosehead Lake, then to the Jackman crossing and back to Millinocket. Huge amount of driving. I had my Outback at the time and my main concern was the sharp rocks from grating the road. I had 17" Geolandar A/T-S tires on it and they had fairly low sidewalls. In the Tacoma I wouldn't be as concerned.

I wish the Canada/US border wasn't so tough to cross now. I've been told I could have easily gotten into Canada, but coming back would be a nightmare because apparently an MA vehicle registered in my name and an MA license that matched wouldn't be enough.

Knowing what i know after the Hike. I would probably just splash in at Chamberlain lake and paddle across. We hiked because of dogs and kayaks dont do well together. The trail is only partly a trail mostly just following pink and orange ribbons and bush whacking. Although its a very easy hike and from parking on the drive in to hiking it took us 3 hours and we took our time. We stayed at Johnsons Alligash Lodge because it was closer and isolated, however with the kids i would suggest New England Outdoor Center which is probably a 2hr drive up Golden Rd.

It was funny talking to one of the guy we ran into. he said you got a map i said yup on my phone and an Maine atlas from 2009. He says you know phones dont work up here your going to get lost. i said sure they do as long as you download the map to offline mode a phone is just as good as a Garmin handheld hunting/sailing GPS. He was shocked when i told him i used Navionics on my Iphone to navigate to Bermuda.
