Agreed! I've been doing it for a year now and I'm used to it, but today was ridiculous. Where are you at now?

Agreed. Now I know nothing about pulling out a stuck vehicle, but wouldn't that yanking motion the dark truck is doing put a ton of stress on your vehicle? Maybe that's the only way in this case.

 

It does, for sure. Some of it's mitigated by the stretch factor in the nylon of the strap, though. But, if it came down to possibly damaging the trailer hitch or definitely losing the truck into the lake...

Personally, I'd rather have had a Kinetic Recovery rope for that sort of thing, but beggars can't be choosers.

 

Or dislodging the 'floating' truck and having it yank your truck into the drink as well, then frame damage becomes a moot point.

 

Yeah, you'd want to have somebody close by with a good sharp machete to use on that strap if the sinking truck took a dive. But, they may have been in shallow (20 feet or less) water, too.

 

Good points, good points. However I wouldn't want to be close to that strap in case it snaps. But then again, if the trucks are being dragged down...

I'm just glad I'm smart enough to not drive a huge truck out on the ice like that.

Turns out it was a bicyclist who was hit and killed by a semi in the Porter Square/Mass Ave intersection. Jeez.

Did anyone watch these guys? They we using chains and they yanking on it so hard they kept breaking the links on the chain

Over the years and with my severe ice fishing addiction I've seen a lot of vehicles of all kinds needing recovery. You guys would be blown away by what I have seen.

I'm in NH now, just outside Concord in Henniker. I work in Londonderry NH.

 

Those guys I thought were even dumber than the guys in the first video. Some of them were walking right up next to the truck. The one guy who stood up on the back right wheel and looked ready to hop in the bed of the truck is such an idiot. Wouldn't surprise me if he were a Darwinism Award candidate another year...

 

Guaranteed there isn't a legal BAC to drive between every single one of them. All 7 sheets to the wind.

 

I've dropped my truck into water through ice. I was the third truck cross the frozen mud puddle. The Truck in front tried to make it crack and failed. I get halfway across and then I feel like I'm floating bob up and down then drop about 2 feet. Mud and ice I couldn't get out as a huge sheet of ice was directly under the truck. I was pretty bullshit I didn't put a strap on first.
