I think you should ramp up on the Willys build and start driving that instead of the Runner :D

I will this winter. I'm gonna rebuild the axles and start working on the engine. I could care less about the body as long as the drivetrain works

The FJ's are nice, but kind of small. I've considered trading for one in the past but I've got too much into the Tacoma to get rid of it. If the Tacoma was still stock, I probably would have traded for an FJ by now.

    2x8's and plywood!

You should see it now, it's all hinged so it comes apart easily, the tie down points are recessed and, coming soon, outdoor carpet on the plywood :D

They are small but quite capable. I want a standard SUV, the FJ has that. I want a truck that's cheap and easy to build, the FJ is that too. None of the outrageous prices for the new 4Runners. I like Tacomas but I don't need a bed.

If my 4Runner was still stock, I would be golden and I would trade it in in a heartbeat lol

No doubt they're capable! The only think I don't like about the manual transmission FJ is it's full time 4wd. I know it probably makes it more stable for daily driving, but every once in a while it's fun to screw around in rear wheel drive, plus it's just more wear and tear on the front drive line.

Transfer case has the same configuration as the 2/4WD case. I'd just swap that out

No, I mean if you buy a new, manual transmission FJ Cruiser it'll be full time 4wd. Yeah, you could do a swap but I would hate to swap transfer cases just because of that.
