So as I think I mentioned before, the Jeep threw a CEL last week. The wife brought it in last Tuesday and the service writer set up an appointment for Monday (today), said it was a historical code and sent her on her way. I wasn't too pleased, but I figured we'd get to the bottom of it at some point. The CEL turned off during the week.

We dropped it off today and they told her unless the code is active the Jeep diagnostic software won't let them proceed, so basically we are stuck until it either throws a code and stays active or it happens again and I raise it past the dealer. Uber-furstrating at 1,500 miles.

I was curious if this was truly the case, so I decided to call Jeep Customer Care to follow-up and see if that was how their protocol really was. I got someone on the phone who unfortunately wasn't very helpful. I asked him for some information on the diagnostic procedures and he just asked for the code and tried to look it up and told me that it might be a loose gas cap (on a MY16 with none?)

So at that point I just more or less cut my losses on that front and just asked why the dealer won't diagnose a car. He responded to me that if the light is on, they will "take care of me". I explained again that the first time it was in, the light was on but because it was historical, their hands were tied. I expressed it stunk spending decent money on a vehicle and have the first CEL at 1,500 miles. I expressed there had to be a route cause and it stinks that the dealer can't do anything to help. Rather than say anything he basically said "if the CEL is on go to the dealer and they will fix things for you." At that point it was clear he could only read from the script and admittedly I got quite quick and just said have a good night and hung up. (I felt AWFUL about that, BTW, I almost called back to apologize but thought that'd be a bit weird).

So yeah, anyone here able to comment if this is the case? Also, feel free to scream at me for basically hanging up on the dude, I do feel kinda crappy about that since it's his job and all.

It's when you've thrown a CEL, but the conditions to cause it are no longer active. In the case of the Jeep it was the camshaft position sensor. So what it means is that at some point communication was interrupted, thus the code. However, the car was then functioning normally, so it has stored that there was an issue, but it's no longer an issue. It's like when you get a CEL but it goes away after a restart.

I always get one in my Vette for the IAT sensor being bad because of a bad connection. I pop the hood and adjust the wires and clear the code. However, if I didn't clear the code, eventually the CEL would go out and the car would run normally. However, I'd still find a record that the code was thrown unless I manually cleared it.

Sorry man, sounds frustrating AF. I wouldn't worry about hanging up on the guy, esp after he told you it's prob your nonexistent gas cap.

No I know, I'm just weird like that. I'm like wow, I'm a terrible person after I do something that isn't necessarily in my nature. Usually I have to be pushed pretty far before the attitude trips like that.

12v models were almost exactly 1100 before you added fluids, if I remember correctly.
I'd still take one. If you're designing a truck with it in mind, it's not difficult to have an adequate suspension to hold it up. :notsure:

Picked up a '71 318 this weekend. Toying with the idea of doing a mild rebuild on it and dropping it into my plow truck to replace the current Slant Six. I'm considering it more seriously after pulling out onto my road this morning and taking about 30 seconds to hit 50, haha!

    Morning everyone.

See that Polaris announced they are stopping production of all Victory motorcycles? They are going to focus instead on Indian sales/productions.

Can't say as I'm surprised; They've put a lot of capital into Indian, and the Victory line is basically competing for the same sales.

Personally, I'm right in love with the Indian Scout Sixty. Sat on one and fell head over heels for it, and I've been drooling over one ever since.

But, I've already got two summer toys between the '69 my current motorcycle, and I hardly ride the current bike at all because I use the '69 as my DD between April & October. :notsure:

Guess I am a little surprised, not sure why though. That Scout Sixty looks pretty sweet. I'd take it over any of the Victory's. To me, they all look like futuristic with their lines, I prefer something simpler.

Yeah, they do. But, some people like that look. Not everybody who wants to ride a cruiser wants something that looks like it came out of the 50's, lol. Just most of them, haha!
