I got sideswiped on Rt 44 last week at the lights by Wallyworld. The guy told his son, who showed up pretty quickly, that he "ran out of brakes".
He's 81 in a 98 Lumina.
His insurance said they have a relationship with Cargill. I'm OK with them, I've seen their work.
They guesstimated 2K plus a rental for 7 days.
Repairs start the 24th when I wont be able to drive any way. Rotator Cuff surg.

 

How does one "run out of brakes"? Granted it is a GM product...

 

4 hours later... Bushing installed.
Had to top off the fluids I lost a lot of fluid.
Tried to drain it but whoever did the service before me stripped the torx bit on the drain plug... Not quite sure what to do there.

 

Is this the ecgs bushing everyone talks about?

 

Order a new plug. If it's real bad Get a disposable Allen key socket and some JB weld. Jb weld that key in wait awhile then you should be able to back it out.

 

If I recall, the drain plug isn't a torx bit. If it truly is stripped, weld a nut on the plug.

 

Fucked up dude. Going through some shit at my job as well. Getting shit for trying to what I thought was me doing a halfway decent job and explaining/pointing things out to people so they could do their job in order for me to do mine. Apparently some people took it as disrespectful and mentioned it to our CEO at a recent sales summit our company had. My boss told me today in a little review type meeting today. We'll, time to look for a new job. Don't want to be at a company where people get offended by you trying to help, and constantly having to walk on eggshells.

You're right . It's a Allen.

 

Hm... I tried all the Allen's we had at the shop and they were super loose. So it might have been because it was stripped. I found a torx that fit but the moment I applied pressure to it the metal started to give. Might weld an Allen bit in there with a 3/8ths attachment hanging off it and just use it like that. I can't stand these stupid Allen and Torx bits...

@Bruce988jl I had that happen and I was the one who had changed it before but luckily for me it happened at a friends shop. We ended up using a air chisel to put a slit in it then used the air chisel in the line to rotate it loose. I then tightened it back up ordered a new one and changed the fluid once I had the new one in hand

 

Yea for now I'm going to order a replacement and I'll figure it out from there later. Sucks... I hate mixing oils.

 

@Bruce988jl 's example is a prime case of why you ALWAYS remove the fill plug before you take the drain plug out, just in case some people didn't already know that.
