    Mornin'

I feel like I've been driving a new truck every few days. I have 6 custom tune files for my truck and I can't decide which one I like better. I've narrowed it down to 2 at this point and decided I want to mash them together (which isn't possible). Every few days, I've been changing up the tune and it's like driving a completely different vehicle, it's kind of neat :)

Was one red with a big wang? :D

    It's snowing up here... blah.
Your truck is NA, right? And does this tuner void the warranty? :p

Yep, truck is good ole fashioned naturally aspirated V8 goodness. In the words of the new Stig, "Turbo chargers are just God's way of saying it ain't got enough cylinders".

It might do something to negate the warranty... I'm damn near out of the extended warranty anyways which is why I finally pulled the trigger on a tuner. I do most of my own work on the truck regardless. There's not a lot a tuner can can do engine-wise with a naturally aspirated vehicle without damaging it. The big differences you feel are how the power is delivered and the improved transmission characteristics. Some tunes simply remove all the factory torque management and drive-by-wire lag so the initial throttle response is very quick. This can give the 'feel' of more power but, in reality, it's just putting down the same power much faster than it did when stock. Based on my perfectly calibrated butt dyno, the truck might be making a bit more power but the torque management reductions and transmission mapping are where the tunes really shine.

It's all about the butt dyno numbers. My FJ makes crazy numbers on the butt dyno with its tune.

Did you buy an aftermarket tuner for the FJ or just the factory tune?

    Ugh. The American... :frusty:

    Him and Celebrity Brain Crash...just...ugh.

Love the rest of their show. But not those two aspects.

Also, glad you're enjoying your high-tech shift kit. :stirthepot:

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
I can deal with the American much more than Celebrity Brain Crash. Just get the American to shut up and he'll be fine

Agreed, I think the Celebrity Brain Crash is utterly ridiculous. The first couple shows they dragged it out, at least the later ones they killed the celebrity off quickly and just moved on with the show.

The American, I have mixed feelings about. Sometimes what he says is funny, other times I wish it was just silent like the old Stig.

Haha, it's sort of an over-glorified shift kit with some tuners. The good ones will squeeze some extra power out of the engine. Most of the gains seem to be when running tune specifically for higher octane fuel. Across the board, the good tuners can squeeze 30+ extra (peak) horses out of the engine with a 93 octane tune. So realistically, 10-15 extra horses in an RPM range you'll actually use and you have to pay an extra $0.30/gallon to get them.

They're absolutely insane if they think that I'd put 35 gallons of premium in my tank

It'd get expensive in a hurry, at an extra $10 per tank.

Slushbombs from the sky here today. Big huge snowflake clumps that are half water and are melting as soon as they hit.

Morning all. Rain is coming down here nice and steady. But at least I don't have to shovel rain when I get home. Right around this time 7 years ago is when RI had the big flood so this brings back some memories.
