The girlfriends Volvo S60 does that, it's awesome

 

My GPS does that

 

So that's not a camera thing? I always wondered how it worked on the Volvo, it changes when you directly next to the sign, I wondered if there was a sensor in the signs or what.

 

IDK, I don't think so. Mine changes almost as soon as I go by the signs too and my GPS is not in view of the road

This is a old picture of my old GPS and I did move it slightly but it is in a very similar position as this

 

This one uses cameras to do it - there's a front facing camera in the windshield.

 

I don't think there is a sensor in the sign, but some sort of shape and color recognition software being used.

 

Either that or really accurate map data. This is actually more likely, given that's Rob's GPS shows the speed limit changes without a camera or line of sight to the road.

Hey guys, I have a Gen-2 Tonneau cover I'm trying to sell. It's the Undercover flex for a 2011-2015 Tacoma, 5' Bed with Bed Utility Rails (the rain rails mount to the utility rails). At this point I just want it out of my basement, as I no longer have a Gen-2. I only used it for 6 months or so, and I even bought a new gasket and installation kit for it, so it's literally in like new condition.

 

yes, GPS are using data, and some rely on us to send in updates when things change. But if a camera, as in the Hilux, is doing it, I would bet there is some sort of shape recognition software, and something to distinguish numbers on speed limit signs.

Full set of fluids was my other to-do. I've got everything on-hand to change them. Front and rear diffs, transfer case, transmission, engine oil, power steering.

 

I wasn't looking for one but read you post and started thinking, well maybe, what are you looking for it?

 

The camera is most likely recognizing all the characteristics of the sign (shape, color, markings, Etc.) and it has been 'trained' on databases that have millions of records of all sort of road signs in it. It basically uses this thing called 'deep learning'. The computer has been trained to recognize any road sign.

Source: My company makes software that allows these types of things to be coded and trained with relative ease. I am no engineer, but work with enough I have picked up the basic concepts. And we have many customers in the automotive world.

 

If I were to buy a new car and had a decent amount to spend on it, I think it'd be a Volvo at this point. They look great and are super comfortable.
