I've been burning wood for years and usually burn 3+ cord each winter. Typically get log lengths to cut and split. This is getting to be too much work and we're looking to put in a gas insert this year.

The place I use came in to clean mine last year and told me that the part that was needed could be found and would need to start thinking about a new boiler. I didn't like that answer......so.
I found the part and had a different company install it.

Why not just get them cut and split for you? Way easier than doing it yourself and you don't have to get a new unit

Yeah, cut, split, & delivered is still cheaper than oil or propane (at least around here), and it'd save you the trouble and cost of installing a new unit.

Oil is cheap right now though. I heat all this past winter on probably less than $600 worth of oil. I've heat with split wood, pellets and propane before, at this point in time I'm happy to be heating with oil. We will see what the future brings however.

Last time I looked at cut split & delivered I think it was around $250 a cord. Tree length is still way cheaper (I think I paid around $80/cord for my last load) so that's what I go with.
After that winter of watching people paying for $4.50/gallon heating oil I don't think I'd ever want to be without a woodstove and a good supply of wood. :notsure:

Getting split wood is certainly an option. However, I still have to stack it - haven't found a company that will deliver and stack it for me. Then I have to hoof it in each week in the winter to the garage. Then I have to take out the ashes through the snow to the back corner of the yard... Not to mention climbing on the roof to clean the liner, etc... The wood stove is in the basement and I have vents in the floor with pipe back to the stove. I'll keep the stove to use when I'm farting down in the basement but use the gas insert for the upstairs. Of course I won't get the exercise running up and down the stairs all evening feeding the beast.

It's easy to press the button on the remote and watch the simulated wood logs burn with the propane flame!

Yep, I've had everything, when I was young we had a coal furnace, screw that stuff, the day they delivered it I would have to shovel the damn stuff from where the chute would bring it to the coal bin in the basement. Nightmare. I had a wood stove when I lived in VT, that romantic idea get's old quick. Spend a shit ton of time splitting, hauling, stacking... I just want to friggin' fish in my free time. Pellets? Do not want to deal with those friggin' bags that is for sure and I had a very high end pellet stove and it still crapped out from time to time. There is just too much going on. For a fat old guy like me oil is ideal. I have more money than time, so just fill the tank and push the button. Perfect.

Where the hell has the Asian persuasion been these days? Newport?
