If you're planning on upgrading the suspension just do it right don't skimp on coils and you'll be fine

I know it's apples to potatoes because of the age difference from a '93 to a '17, but my '93 Grand Cherokee towed smoother and better than my '99 Tacoma did. Better power and a smoother ride when she was hitched. That had coils in it.

I figured as much as, besides Dodge, no other trucks use coils for the rear (not even considering the Honda cruck). But hey, coming from a Tacoma, at least he'll be used to having a soft rear suspension that can't handle the vehicle's ratings :stirthepot:

This has got me concerned since my trailer has pretty excessive tongue weight due to the single axle design. It's not a heavy trailer at all, probably 2500lbs loaded but easily 20% tongue weight. Sagged the shit out of my truck before the airbags.

Seriously though, easy solution to this concern would be to ask the dealership if they mind if you hook up your trailer to it on the lot, to see how it'd handle the weight. If you're seriously looking at the 4Runner, it's a legit concern and question. Just load it up like you normally would and tow it in with your truck, then unhook and see how the 4Runner handles it. As long as the trailer is within the rated specs for the Runner I can't see why a salesman would say 'no' to the idea.

Aww man, my trailer has 5 feet on that one, easy! I was wondering if the dealer would let me drag around my trailer... Not a bad idea at all.

Although I am more than willing to be talked out of spending 40 grand right now.

Not sure how that trailer's loaded, though. Might have 2000lbs in the nose, lol.
Most dealers are pretty understanding; if you tell them you tow, it's not unreasonable for them to let you at least hitch up and see how it changes the stance of what you're looking at buying. Not sure they'd want you to take an extended test drive or anything, but they might let you drag it around the lot if you're a potential buyer.

    ORRRRR.....
The F150 Mod would handle your trailer without any trouble. Just sayin... Room for 6 if you get the right seating setup, and you'd still have a bed for dirty items.

Fords are junk theyre good for the first 5 years then turn to piles of shit. Tundra is your best bet then the Chevys 1500 with direct injected 5.3 those things can haul serious weight. Im grossed out to 102k lbs today ladies and gents

Everybody's entitled to an opinion, lol.
Personally, I'd never buy a current-production Chevy after I walked the dealer lot and saw that the frame welds were already rusting through the paint.
Incidentally, the Chevy 1500 equipped with the 5.3 is rated for a max of 11,000 lbs, same as the 5.0 F150 (edit- which is less than the Ford 3.5EB's max rating of 12.2K, which in turn is less than the Chevy 6.2's 12.5K rating)

The 5.3 is a tank of an engine, I really liked towing with it, but it's just one small piece of the puzzle.

Almost every company I've worked for had Fords for the fleet vehicles. They were beat to shit day after day and would run just fine to 200k miles. The abuse they would endure was fairly impressive. That being said, I'm not worried about mine in the least.

Haha, you're right, I could be driving a giant brown pile by the end of the year!

I do want to see what the F150 diesel looks like for 2018... Once that engine gets sorted, that could be my next ride.

There is a 150 diesel coming out? Probably gonna be $50 grand starting? At least? Interesting though.

    Yeah, a 3.0 V-6. Supposedly it'll be 240HP and 420 Ft/Lbs.

You should be safe; your truck's blue!

The 5.3 is a tank, but I hate the new setup they have. Between the transmission mapping and how they've got the power delivery tuned for economy, it's nothing-nothing-nothing-KABOOM!
The one that I test drove, if you floored it she'd shit & get, but at anything less than probably 3/4 throttle it was pokey. Slow to shift and at very low RPM's. That truck needed a tuner chip in the worst way.

Fords just a hit or miss honestly, the fleets take a beating and still you have failures you wouldnt have if you got a Toyota or Nissan

Modern vehicles have so many working systems and different designs that there just isn't a 'bulletproof' brand out there anymore. It's more or less an impossibility.

Edit- I'm not trying to start an argument here, just pointing out. Pick a brand & model and do a fast google search on recalls and service bulletins. You won't find one that doesn't have them.
