If you go to Firestone be prepared for one of their patented 6 page printouts with $6,000 worth of recommended work. I'm convinced they look at the mileage on the vehicle and assume you have done zero maintenance and everything is broken.

My sister in law had her Corolla in for an oil change and their list was like $4,000 worth of work.

What's the condition of it otherwise? Do you own it outright? The wife's tC hit the point where it was starting to break with some regularity and I threw in the towel. If it was going to be a repair here or there and then be solid I wouldn't have worried. When it broke it's 6th brake caliper in 2 years I was done.

The funny thing on the calipers was that when I'd borrow it I thought the brakes were awful and I'd ask the wife if her brakes were always that bad and she's like yeah they were never great (she bought the car new) and finally I was like it needs to go in for service and they found only one caliper wasn't seized. Did all four and two of the replacements seized. The mechanic was amazing and stood behind his work but still.

If you think you're going to get another year or so, maybe it's worth it, if not maybe it's worth considering a replacement.

 

Luckily we haven't had any issues with it, aside from the normal wear and tear stuff, and just regular maintenance. Nothing too crazy thank God. It drives great, and aside from what we found out about today, we haven't seriously thought about getting rid of it. Yeah, we've talked about something with a 3rd row because of the kids and in-laws, or my parents, but it's not like it's a die hard necessity. Ideally we'd like to keep it for as long as we can, but as we all know, shit happens.

EDIT: Yeah, we own it outright.

Getting sick of all the mild built/mild wheeled 3rd gen tacos getting pushed as serious off-road rigs as they splash through a puddle on instagram almost all the off-road pages I follow are getting annoying with it...

 

Morning all.

My advice would be to take it to a local mechanic for a second opinion, instead of a stealership/chain store. Local shops are (usually) more concerned about keeping customers and making their shop mortgage payments than about hitting numbers for corporate. Ask around and find a reputable small shop and have them take a look at it. Dealerships a lot of times will classify 'weeping' as 'leaking' I've noticed. If your car isn't leaving spots in your driveway, the leaks obviously aren't that bad, if they exist at all.

 

at 35k, I can understand not pushing the 3rd gens yet, most are still making payments.

 

Also Lucas stop leak can work for weaping too

 

That’s fine but I can’t stand when it’s all the Toyota off-road pages push now... I get that the 3rd gens bring in the highest dollar on mods now but if you dub your page as a serious off-road page then don’t post the same 6bro overlanders splashing through puddles every week. Just sucks I used to like a few pages because their was awesome armor ideas and cool suspension/traction mods. Now all I see is stupid bulky bumpers that can hold 18 Jerry cans, a table, an air tank, and 52 light post stands.

 

The only time I haven't seen a dealership tell somebody that a weeping seal needs replacing is if it's under warranty, lol. That's why the leaky rear diffs on 3rd gens are still 'normal' but Nino's Mazda needs them all replaced.

My father in law is good friends with a guy who is a mechanic, because his wife and my mother in law worked together. The two of them (the "womans") talk on the phone all the time. We talked about taking it there, but wanted to check Firestone as well since they are open late, and are real close to our house. That's why we decided to go there first for an opinion. Might take it to "our guy" after, and see what he says, just for kicks.

Drew offered to help and do the work, which is fucking AMAZING to say the least. I told my wife that, and being a typical woman and not understanding how TW peeps are, she was "skeptical" about it. Her main questions were why, and where would he do it. Typical woman... LOL

 

Yup, I am meeting a guy at 515 right down the street from work, should be a quick meeting and then ill be on my way over.

 

You want to freak her out, tell her that it's because you posted a photo of her on here and now Drew is dying to meet her.

 

My buddy's shop at his house who is an ASE certified Mastertech. Multiple people have had us do work before and its only $50 an hour for labor

 

I've met her ;D

 

Even better. Can't wait to see her again...

 

Versus a dealer whom charges in the neighborhood of 150/hr
