I get to pay mine quarterly, not sure if Mass does that. But after the new deductions, I'll have paid roughly $690.

On a 2013 Tundra initially worth $50k, you'd be paying about $125 in excise next year if you lived in MA. It's $25 per $1000 of value, but in the fifth year and every year after they only charge 10% of original MSRP.

    https://www.mass.gov/guides/motor-vehicle-excise

My truck, being a 2011 with an original MSRP around $30k is only valued at about $3k.

So $25/1000 is for the whole state? In RI, it's done by each city/town. It's $46.58/1000 for me. My city is worse on taxes.

I've considered switching to Mass. My inspections are less strict than MA, and valid for twice as long.

Yes, $25/$1000 for the whole state. And the value chart linked above. I pay about $75/year in excise for my truck.

RI has inspections every 6 months?!

I have thought about switching to VT to avoid excise. I'm basically right on the border anyway, but still in MA. I think there are penalties for that if you're caught though.

Inspection is every 2 years in RI.

You don't have to prove you're a VT resident to register a vehicle there? Many people live in RI with out of state plates like @DoubleRGirl. Can't think of anyone who's ever been fined for it.

I would like to register out of state, like Florida, which has no annual inspection. I could mod the vehicle almost anyway I want, and RI couldn't bother me for it.

Yup! There were two tacos, plenty of 4runners. Remember the guy from California with the black Tacoma and his little son, he was there. Thinking about trying to make my own skid plates though

Yeah, VT doesn't care about being a resident or not.

Funny thing is, if I were to ever get a post office box, I'd do it in VT since the post office there is significantly closer than the MA one that covers my town.

All downhill slides start with a single loss. This is only the beginning.
I thought excise was done by town? My excise tax dropped significantly when I moved out of Quincy and dropped again when I left Norwood. I thought the towns had some say in how the vehicles were valued.

Question for the group. Lived in the Northeast my whole life and never heard of "winterzing" a car before this site.

Whats it mean? Ohh and got a tint job today on the Taco if the weather wasn't so shitty I would have posted a picture.

'Winterizing' a car can mean a few different things, depending on the vehicle and how it's used. If it's a summer car and you're storing it, you might block it up, top off the fuel and maybe a few other things. For a 4wd truck that's driven year round, winterizing might just be throwing some sand bags in the bed. For my wife's car, it's throwing the studded snows on. For my truck, it's just progressively turning the knob from blue to red.

This will depend on the vehicle. May include adjusting the pressure or changing to winter tires, washer fluid with de-icer, antifreeze mixture though not necessary these days, fresh wiper blades, etc... Can't say I've had to do anything special in the time I've had my truck.

Guidepoint? Nope. But I installed a Pioneer head unit in mine, no hassle at all.

Ugh don't tempt me! I would love having a second vehicle. Only downside to the Tundras seems to be the gas mileage.
