Around here there are a lot of contractors that have Florida plates, it's my understanding some have really small pieces of land down there, probably paying for with the registration/inspection savings.

Since we were talking classic cars a bit ago, anyone know about the '77 Corvette? A guy offered to trade one for my dad's motorcycle. Apparently it starts and runs. It has a little over 100k miles on it. I've heard it is not an overly desired year, but is it, a decent car?

The towns collect it, but the state makes them value vehicles the same.

What probably happened is the vehicle was aging from year to year and the new towns were taking the value based on the next drop. Or, you got partial year bills because you moved part way through a new year.

Yup, that can happen. Because the least they will ever value something is 10% of MSRP and the 4Runner would have cost more than the Rav new.

A quick search shows it as a vehicle recovery tracker similar to LoJack. I couldn't tell if it was dealer installed for the consumer or for the dealer (some used car lots put trackers on their vehicles in case the buyer doesn't pay it's easier to repo). It might be worth contacting the company to see what's up.

    Ah, the disco Corvette.

The gripe with the later C3 is that it lost some of it's classic looks of the early C3 without all the aero add-ons of the later models. Depending on which engine you got, it's either 180 or 210 hp. Granted it is a SBC, so getting power is a parts catalog away. I remember being very unimpressed by the interior on them, but then again, I'm unimpressed with the interior on mine. I suppose as a basic boulevard cruiser the later C3 isn't terrible, but it's not going to be a performance / sports car, despite what the men in floral prints and jorts seem to think.

I told him, if it runs and drives fine, and he wants to keep it to cruise around in, then go for it. He was thinking of trading the bike and then trying to sell he car, thinking it'd be an easier sell. My advice was not to do it for that reason.

Yea but i figured in 1997 an SR5 T4R would have been in the 20-29k range for brand new. I know mom's rav4 was like 27k. But i mean like wtf lol

Sometimes they aren't quite right on MSRP too. I think they just go by the VIN and it's kind of a base price. I looked back and mine is based on $27k. I have the original sticker and the truck was actually $32k before dealer add-ons (just DCLB, 4x4, TRD Sport, and Tow). They must have based it on just a 4x4 DCLB.

I have to agree. The known evil vs the unknown evil. Who knows what is wrong with the Vette, and what might rear its head when you are trying to sell.

Plus then you have to deal with Corvette owners (rolls eyes). The C5 crew on the forums is pretty insufferable. hurr durr 'murica C5 is the bestest fastest car EVAR.

Try a different forum. There's been several forums about the same vehicle where many members of one are also members of others. Yet the atmosphere is completely different.

I might have signed up there, but not sure. What's it like there?

One forum I was part of was very similar to TW, while another with mostly the same users was the place to go to start trouble.

It’s awesome in the sense a lot of them are dabbling in some major mods like engine/ trans swaps, turbos, SAS, and everything in between but I find they are less keen on answering questions

Soooo.... been doing research on lifting my Taco and my freakin head is spinning and I don't feel like getting flamed in the main forum for asking the question.

Is it possible to go with Bilstein 5100's all the way around and lift the truck 2-3 inches? If so what are the con's to just running with the Bilsteins? I don't do serious off-roading (at least until the note is paid off) but often am hauling gear up to VT and running through mild trails. My truck is my commuter vehicle for work and I drive alot and often. I would like to fit more aggressive tires and get the look of the lifted truck.

No real con to Billy’s the more expensive king/fox will perform better off-road but unless you wheel a lot you likely won’t miss the difference. You’ll also need a full leaf pack for the rear. I’d recommend against an add a leaf because you say you haul gear and an aal is not ideal. Marie at headstrong off-road could set you up with a great price and kit. Wheelers os also great. Being a new truck the install should be easy and you won’t have to cut everything under the sun off like I did on my 13yr old truck... but there are tons of guys willing to do lift installs. @mach1man001 would probably go for it if you get on it before the weather turns bad. If it’s in the winter and you need a garage that complicates things if you don’t have access to one

I don't know if it's the same with the new models, but the previous generation, you had to be careful with running 5100s in the rear. The 5100s are good for 0-1" of lift so they could top out if you go higher. That would really only become an issue if you're really flexing out the rear. The taller billies are made for 3-4" of lift so you'd have to make sure you it your bump stops before bottoming out the shocks. You might want to consider OMEs rear shocks.
