I've been fighting the love/hate game with my cap.. I love the added height but I barely need it unless it's winter time and I'm moving the snowblower around from house to house during storms... But this year I have the bed slide so I don't even know if I can get it into the bed without collapsing the arms on the snowblower.

I got all the pulleys, tensioners and belts changed on the truck. Only took about an hour, it went a lot faster than I thought it would. I put the front tires on ramps and I could sit underneath with the belts and pulleys at eye level with plenty of room to work. Didn't have to take off any shrouds or hoses. One of the tensioners spun a little rough so I think that was the noise I was hearing. They made it to 100k miles so they didn't owe me anything at this point.

Yea I was surprised how much easier it was when I looked at it from the underside. I'll be doing my alternator Monday evening from the top - that'll be enjoyable...

Edit just realized you're referring to the ford...

Haha, yeah. The 5.0 is set really far back in the engine bay so there's a lot of space between the front of the engine and the radiator. If the hoses and intake were't in the way, I could stand up in the space. i can't imagine how much space the ecoboost engine bays have.

I don't recall the Tacoma being difficult to change the belt and pulleys on. The tensioner is just a stupid setup, but once we decided to just change the pulley and leave the tensioner arm, the rest wasn't bad.

Morning, just wanted to share a monthly subscription box I’ve been getting for the past 4 months. Petrol box, pretty damn cool. Always get a t shirt, a tool, cleaning product and a few more goodies. For the cost you get way more plus it introduces you to new products. I got this Adams glass cleaner that is absolutely amazing!

    Anyways thought I would share

That looks amazing! I also can’t get over how similar our dogs look lol.

My friend brought her kitten over to see how my doggo would react. He was a little yappy and hyper at first, but soon he sniffed the kitty and just ignored him...

I'm really on the fence of whether or not I want another cap on mine. During the winter I like having the covered bed so I don't end up with a bed full of snow (or year round people don't use my bed as a trash can) but my snowblower doesn't have collapsible arms so if I got a cap I'd need to run with the rear window open. With the OEM tonneau I've got I need to run a bed extender and a sheet of particle board because I can't fit the whole snowblower into my bed and get the tailgate up.

Anyone know what the consensus is for driving around with the rear window open on a cap? It wouldn't be a long drive (< 10 minutes) and likely not much over 30 MPH.

I've been undecided if I want a cap, tonneau cover, or a roll/light bar. 10 years later, I still don't know.

I never would have put the tonneau on mine if it didn't come from the factory with it already installed. It does have it's perks, like covered bed storage which is good if you are making multiple trips and have stuff in your bed you want to hide from prying eyes. I am not a fan of the tri-fold design simply because with the short bed it eats up a lot of space. The bed extender does bring a bunch of it back, but it's still a band-aid solution.

The cap is nice because it gets rid of the height restrictions of the tonneau somewhat in terms of covered storage (obviously you fold up the tonneau and you remove it altogether) but you can quickly throw a box in the back without worry. The downfall is that it's reasonably easy for one person to quickly remove a tonneau (or roll it up if that's the style you have) whereas unless you have a cap removal system in your garage, it's bit tougher. It's hardly impossible, just not as easy.

The only problem with the roll bar / light bar is that it looks completely awesome and you won't want to remove it to run a cap in the winter. I didn't run into any functional drawbacks having it. Well, the only thing that happened was hitting a bad rut in the road actually forced the bed to move enough that one of the light studs hit the back of the cab and dented it. I simply put some touchup paint on it and solved that issue.

Had the bar looked good on my truck, I'd have kept it, but the proportions weren't right for a 3G. Go Rhino or one of them makes one for the 3G with larger tubes that looks a whole lot better but I don't know if I want to run down that road a third time, even as much as I love the look.

Mostly fluids - diffs, transfercase, trans?, then plugs, and grease the u-joints on the drive shaft. I am also in need a tire balance and maybe an alignment... get a pretty good shake between 55-65. Was looking into beads as Ive heard these duratracs can be tough to keep balanced.

Go buy a lifetime alignment from firestone it’s worth its weight in gold... For Standard fluid changes I’m sure some wouldn’t mind doing it for your but if your not handy with that or keen on learning your best bet is to find a small mom and pop shop that you really trust and build a relationship with them because should something come up down the road they will be your reference.
