By the way I've been seeing 17 to 19 avg. miles with this beast .. Haven't towed with it yet ... The Wife's loving this thing though , always wanting to drive it !

That's not bad! I'm still pulling 15 with the gasser and that's with my commute into and out of Boston so I'm not too upset with that. She gets her first oil change this weekend and I'm hoping it'll creep up a little bit as the warmer weather hits and she breaks in a little.

 

Are you going to use synthetic?

That's because it takes something like 12 quarts, lol.

Probably around $225-250 per, at a guess. Plus install.

$250 x 5 = $1250, plus install.
Even if they're $225 apiece that's still $1125 plus install.
You must be using government math.

Not sure.... Manual just says 5W30. I'll use Motorcraft but not sure if I'll use the full synthetic or the synthetic blend.

The new beast actually takes less oil than the 5.0, believe it or not.

Selling them used, I would guess you could get a grand for them. I'd list them higher though but, they're still used tires (even though they'll have like 10 miles on them).

 

@BostonBilly Billy, word it as new take-offs. That way people don't think you "used" them at all

 

That's odd. How many quarts? Mine takes 6.5, which I figure isn't too bad for a V8. The 2.7 took 6, so an extra 1/2 quart for 2 extra cylinders and more than double the displacement isn't bad

 

The F150 took 8 quarts. According to the Owner's Manual, the new truck takes 7 quarts. So an extra 1.2L of displacement and 1 quart less oil... No idea but I did always think 8 quarts was ridiculous for a gas engine.

 

5.7L Tundras take either 8 or 8.5 quarts

 

I could maybe see it for a 6.2 or 6.4, though. It would make more sense for a big work truck engine like that to have more reserve oil, to keep the oil temps down when towing, plowing, etc.
But for a small V8 in a half ton it's a bit odd.
