Is that how the law is worded in NH regarding rendering aid? If the person is no longer a threat and you have the chance to help save them, you are obliged not to? Good point on shooting to stop the threat, not to kill/wound.

not exactly sure on verbage of the law but in the Lethal force class I took, which went over legalities of using a firearm for defense inside and outside the home, it was taught that you don't provide aid to a person who just tried to harm you. getting close enough to render aid puts you in extremely close proximity with someone who just tried to harm you or your family. that person could be incapacitated (no longer a threat) then wake up/decide/react to your close proximity and do you harm again, which would leave you little time to react. the instructor also said an argument could be made to a jury, that you immediately regretted your actions and that's why you rendered aid.
I think case in point would be police officers. they do not provide aid to an attack that they just neutralized, they wait for EMS, or possibly another officer.

I also think it could be misconstrued that you were not providing aid, but actually attacking the person, or making their condition worse, IE, stopping them from putting pressure on a wound, or that you were not actually trying to save them, or that you were finishing them off even though the threat was gone.

I definitely see the logic, you don't know if someone will continue to not be a threat. My thinking was a person can legally not be a threat, therefore treatable. Obviously that line of thinking is scenario dependent. Where did you take the lethal force class, Sig Academy?

Damn, that’s awesome! I wish I had one but could never justify owning one. I have one stump left that I’ll be digging out when I rent an excavator to dig out my driveway.

Just took care of my two big ones with it. Might take down a couple things tomorrow and get rid of the stumps for those while I'm at it.

The thing is a beast. Definitely a workout!

Manchester firing Line, it was an NRA class. very well done. I took it 8 years ago or so, maybe more. But I do keep up on the topic, and carry most days.

I have had one time I was very glad to be carrying, and one other time I wish I had been.

May 4th 2010, I arrived home from Afghanistan. next day met up with some friends for lunch, they were already drinking so I decided to DD them around. I would have had no tolerance after 6+months of not drinking while deployed and had to leave the following day to visit family.
Bar hopped them around town (Nashua), ran into a girl friend I had not seen in years at the last stop. still had not had one drink. place was closing up and she asked for a ride home, which was on the way to my friends place. I agreed and we all left. I was driving down the street to drop her off and a couple hundred feet down some guys ran out of the woods and down the middle of the road. it looked like they were running for help, or from something... so I stopped short and waited to see what they did... one stopped in front of my truck, the other two at the drivers side window, which was partially down. they were all catching their breath and could not even make a full sentence, a bit out of shape.
One finally said "get the F out of the truck". I asked my friends if they knew anyone, as it seemed like a joke at the time. they started talking shit, saying they were going to beat our a$$es. I started to evaluate a route out of there when one of them smashed the rear drivers side window with an object that hid my friend in the head. With the explosion of glass, (AC sealed rear window) I drew a glock from a holster in my truck. they all had an "O Sh^t" moment as they stared down the short barrel of my .45. It was mostly reactionary, I had been in a war zone for months doing combat patrols. I took control of the situation, ordered the guys back away from my truck. The closest guy just kept saying "don't shoot me". I had him get on the ground, and that's when the others ran off down the road. I called the 911, asked for an ambulance and police, gave description of the vehicle and perps, and told them I was armed and detaining a suspect.
with the guy laying on the ground I put the holster in my belt and holstered my pistol. had my friend get out of the truck and sit on the tailgate holding a bandage on the side of his head. police came and took the suspect away, and drove off looking for the others. a few min later the ambulance showed up and took my friend to the hospital for some stitches. he had about a 4 inch laceration from his temple down to his cheek.
detectives showed up next, I was asked to come to the station and give a report along with the others. I handed them my firearm and they unloaded it, and gave us a ride to the station, not handcuffed. They decided it was strictly self defense, and even said they were surprised I didn't shoot anyone. to which I replied "me too" lol. If one of them had made a move I know I would have :infantry:. But the threat was
I was not going to be available to testify against these guys if needed, so I did a video statement with the detectives after we had talked about what happened. while waiting in the officers lounge and having a snack, one of the suspects parked outside the station! His MOM came in and said her son was held at gunpoint and robbed. The dispatch officer said they would need a statement from her son (who was in late 20's)and asked her to bring him in. Once inside they asked where the incident occurred, and when it matched the road I was at they cuffed him :ballchain:. They all had multiple arrests for drugs. turns out 1 was on felony probation, other was misdo probation, and people on probation are not supposed to be hanging out. the third had multiple domestic violence charges. They ended up catching the last guy before I left the station. I never followed up with what happened to them. hopefully they straightened up and realize how close they were to getting dropped.

    Did I win longest post?

Wheels look good, but the housing behind you really stirs me. We have the same shingle/green look at our place in Maine, as do a fair amount of the ones on the lake with us...realllllly makes me miss it and want to be there. Going maybe next weekend tho, so soon enough!!

We are in Ellsworth off RT1, on Branch Lake. My great grandfather settled in Bangor after stowing away on a ship from Ireland and he built the home himself. He actually got caught the first time and tossed into the ocean, but tried again later and was successful. We have updated electrical and added a little insulation but there are portions that are original to him. Been up there every year of my life and plan to keep it that way!
