DO NOT SPEED IN VA!! I have had two very bad experiences in VA on my motorcycle. One which cost me a night in jail and about $2k in lawyer fees. They are assholes there.

How fast were you going? Pretty sure they ticket anything more than 20 over the limit (or over 80) as reckless driving, which down there has the same level of 'bad' as driving drunk

64 in a 55, but he claims my buddy and I were racing because we were riding so close to each other, so he wrote us for speed competition. It's a felony. Absolute bullshit, the cop was just being a 100%, complete dickhead.

    Ha! Wow. That sucks.
Three of us got pulled over just outside of Augusta years ago by a cop who was convinced that we were racing, too, but one of my riding buddies (who was on a 'Busa) pointed out that if we actually HAD been racing he wouldn't have been in last place behind a Honda Shadow 750 and a Ninja 636, and that the fact that the guy on the Honda was out in front made it obvious that we weren't racing, just speeding. Even the cop had to laugh and let us off with a warning to slow it down.

Edit- Of course, he wasn't from VA. :notsure:

Oh yeah, it sucked alright. Almost worse than that was my bike got towed which happened quick, while I was actually still getting cuffed and stuffed. A flatbed shows up and I'm like sweet, it isn't getting put on a hook, then the guy lays the bike on it's side and uses chains instead of straps. Did a ton of damage basically on purpose.

Just go! After college after I wanted to move but wasn't sure where. I drove to N.C. on a long weekend, got a hotel room and partied my ass off in the downtown for a few days. It was 70 degrees on a random January weekend and the ladies were biting. I moved the next week, found a job online and slowly made a few friends from work and around the apartment complex. I had a few years of being an absolute retard, and then a few more finding out what I wanted from life, and what type of people were worth letting in my life. Lots of people I grew up with and never left really regret it. Just go do it. It might be 6 months and you realize you want to be home, maybe 6 years. At least you went and found out. I wouldn't encourage you so much, but it sounds like something you really want to do. I ended up right where I started married to a girl that was on my elementary bus route...but it took some exploring to realize that's what I wanted.

Friends are overrated! It is SOOOO nice to go into a grocery and not everyone knows you. Or just go to the movies late at night by yourself and pretend you own the fucking place. I dunno, I like the anonymity of being in a new place where no one knew me. In my town everyone knows everyone and you can't take a shit without someone finding out.

If you ever here "oh honey, bless your heart" or something like that, they just called you a retard to your face. I know a woman from NY who I did some real estate with and she was previously a teacher. Went to a real rural area of Virginia for a interview and the principal asked her to her face "What does a yankee like you think they can teach our kids". She didn't get the job.

Most cities aren't that bad, but that's only because northerners and others have settled them and there are too many of us to really go after still. But the area I have some land out east...well, I loved it, but it's not for everyone that's for sure.

I actually agree with this. I think cops should nail out of staters then locals can always relax and enjoy their drive. Yeah it sucks if you commute up and down 95 a lot, but whatever I guess, I like the idea of targeting out of towners. I understand that isn't good for encouraging tourists and things, but I still support it.

In NC if you get caught going 15 over the limit out of state with your N.C. license they take your license automatically for a year. Ask me how I know:anonymous:

Wow. With a question like that I'd probably have answered "I don't know; science, evolution, and why f*cking your sister is a bad idea?"

But, the almost uncontrollable urge to give responses like that is a big part of why I didn't go into teaching anyway. :notsure:

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to move away if I had a job lined up. I need to go see the Greenville and Ashville areas still. I also know what you mean about not knowing everyone. I know a shit load of people and even more people know me because of my mom. Mom being a pediatric NP in town just meant everyone knew my business whether I liked it or not. Since I got out of high school no one recognizes me really. I put on weight (fat) and grew facial hair. Some people it only takes a double or triple take but others its like I'm a stranger. Which is nice when I go out by myself and want some quiet to myself.

For sure. First kid that gave attitude would get it right back with a bonus detention on the side. First parent that complained to the principal about my failing their dumbass kid would get called in for a Parent-Teacher conference and verbally brutalized about their shitty parenting job before either I quit or the school fired me, lol.

Maybe instead of bringing back beatings for the kids, we could beat the parents for being shit heads. My Dad got his knuckles rapped and smacks to the head at school(catholic boys school) , he thought it was a good thing.:smack:

When I first moved to NC, sometime around 2010, I was watching the local news and they were debating whether or not they should still be using corporal punishment....ON SPECIAL EDUCATION kids. I thought it was a joke, but it was a serious thing and they were at that time, still doing it. I'm not sure which way it ended up going or if they still do it. I have to think they stopped? But I never really heard much more about it.

Getting moved to Asplundh but I’ll find out where my show up is on Monday. Hopefully a little closer because driving 200 miles a day sucks

Not if you’re VA plated driving a pick up.
20 over down there, they can get you for ‘intent to kill’ I believe and the fines for that are pretty ridiculous.

@jethro they definitely do not like bikes down there. I got hassled a lot on my bike, even doing the speed limit. VA plated and everything. The cop who pulls you over can vary your outcome greatly. There are a lot of ‘good ole boy’ towns down there and, if you get pulled over by the wrong redneck having a bad day, you can be sure you’re going to share in his misery

I’ve been poking around, looking for new shocks for the Super Duty, way too much spring for the stock shocks. They do ok, but I know good shocks will be a drastic improvement. I have had trouble finding shocks, so I wrote to DSM, told them it’s a highway truck, no off roading, budget friendly and just looking for ride improvement. I got a link back to the list of King shocks for my truck, cheapest one was $1,000/shock... asked about the less expensive Fox 2.0, build time is 2-4 months! Looks like that’ll have to more of a long term plan or I need to find someone else to buy from...
