If she choses a van, so be it. I have no problem with that, regardless of how much shit everyone on here will dish out. It's going to be her daily driver, so whatever she feels comfortable with will work for me. To be honest, kinda dissapointed we didn't get that Sienna. That thing was mint A.F.

And I'll answer your question without a problem. I am actually from the main land. I am from an area called Serra Da Estrela. It's in the center region of the country, but a bit north center, if that makes sense. From an itty bitty village called Cativelos, by a "city" called Gouveia.

My brother's wife just got a honda oddessy, they have 2 kids under 2.5 years old. She loves it, he does too it seems. Personally they aren't for me but the people that have them LOVE them.

My parents have one actually, but I'm not a fan... it looks too "minivanish". LOL! I like the Sienna because it looks sporty.

How often do the wife's parents tag along? Not sure I'd want to take the mileage hit every day for a Pilot or Highlander for the joy of lugging my inlaws around...

 

Not very often. Mainly whenever we go to see her brother in WV, which is only once in a while. And if we go on small trips because of the kiddos, or stuff like that.

Looks bad ass! I actually saw one today, a TRD PRO, on the way to work, but it was a dark grey color. Looked sweet!

 

Obviously your situation may be different, but you're talking about a 5-10mpg difference going from a CRV or Rav4 sized vehicle to a Highlander/Pilot sized vehicle. For her DD, that has the potential to add up in a hurry, depending on how much driving she does. For me that'd be more than enough excuse to get a smaller, inlaw-proof vehicle, if I was doing much for driving. I mean, I only have a 15 minute commute and I've noticed a difference every week in gas $, going from the 20-22mpg F150 to the 14-15mpg Ram 2500.

 

She doesn't do much driving... home to work, work to home, maybe her parents house here and there since it's halfway between home and work... grocery store run here and there, but mostly on the way home from work, which is on the way home anyway.

I think we're more "concerned" with getting something that we can use whenever people need to tag along, so we don't have to take more than one car and follow each other around, for convenience purposes.

 

It may be easier to just rent a mommyvan for these once in a while trips?

 

We did that once, and it was expensive. Not something I'd be up for doing all the time to be honest.

 

Down here in Quasi-NY, I think the amount of trophy wives/mommies driving 80k Suburbans is keeping GM afloat.
Those behemoths are everywhere...only in black or silver.

 

Have you looked at long term costs? It seems expensive at a glance because it's a one-time fee. Break it out to once a year and then the fuel savings of a smaller vehicle the rest of the year and compare?

 

Good point, very good point. But I think we're kinda "sold" on the idea of having something of our own, just in case and/or because of any small trips that may come up or that we do here and there, that her parents (or other people for that matter) need to tag along on.

I think it goes back to the whole convenience thing.
