I agree, the 2004 was very anticlimactic. The real challenge was the ALCS that year and the 7 game battle with the Yankees. Especially following how the 2003 ALCS went. Then they just went on to sweep in the World Series.
I wasn't around for it, but everything I read and hear from others, it was similar to the USA 1980 Men's Hockey Olympic team. Everyone remembers them beating the Soviets (in the Semi Finals), and people forget they then went on to beat Finland in the Gold Medal game.

 

He's just cranky because Portugal has never finished higher than third in the world cup for soccer, and that was 50 years ago.

Yeah, the ALCS was much more entertaining to watch.

 

Honestly don't care much for professional sports, except maybe lacrosse since those guys still have day jobs... Still haven't followed it in years. Since I was told I couldn't play contact sports anymore even hockey I've gotten away from and I played for 14 years

Using likes in a thread where I am clearly outnumbered based solely on geographical position is a null and void argument. That proves, and proved, absolutely nothing. History on the other hand... that is what really matters and counts for stats.

At least Portugal made it to this World Cup... did the US??? NOPE. And at least we have finished in the top three... has the US??? NOPE. My point is made.

Of course not. The men in this company play football instead of flopball/soccer. The women, on the other hand, play soccer. As a result, they've won 3 times. Not to mention 4 gold medals for it in the Olympics.

The 2004 ALCS was one of the best series, ever.
I was at Game 3 when they got smoked like 18-5. I remember watching batting practice and Gary Sheffield was hitting bomb after bomb WAY over the monster. My dad and I both looked at each other and knew it wasn't going to end well that night.

 

Very weak argument... a sport where at least 3/4 of the team is FAT AND OVERWEIGHT, and there is barely any "sport" in it, when you stop and go 99% of the game. Yeah... that's a "real" sport right there if I have ever seen one. LMFAO

And the women play soccer because that's REAL FOOTBALL. Otherwise I'm sure they would play EGGBALL AS WELL.

Although, when it comes down to it, the men play flopball, the women play soccer. They're way more badass than the guys.
