Back in 2007, I took about a 20% pay increase to move back to the north east! It was pretty much a lateral move though, financially. Things up here are just a lot more expensive!

Depends on the type of engineer. I believe GD will start mechanical engineers between $50 and $60k in this area.

I have a friend who is an Aerospace engineer supervising a few people making just under $100 and he started at $75.

You're on the wrong side of the state. You could get a reasonably nice house on a good size piece of land with a big garage for probably $250k here.

I almost bought a house with 20 acres but no garage for $160. But the guy thought it was worth $200 and refused to accept my offer. Eventually went into foreclosure and the bank got $150.

I do pretty well for myself but then again a lot of my income is supplemented by the fact that I dont' have to pay for my meals, gas, rentals, hotels etc for about 60% of the year...... at the same time I am gone 60% of the year which sucks.

Are you looking to do your own wheel bearing on a tacoma? I just did both of mine (Right front was bad, left changed just for shits and giggles...) I had NEVER done anything like that on a vehicle before...Just soft maintenance stuff but when I saw I could get the completed pressed bearing assembly from @BamaToy1997 for $140ish...If you've worked on your truck/lift ect it's doable...The real issue is stuff seized together with rust...Getting the hub off the knuckle was the WTF$#(*$()@! moment :)
Obviously argue that it should be covered!!

It's listed as covered under the 1 year 12K certified warranty...
    https://www.toyotacertified.com/warranty
Axle Assembly Components - Front, Rear-Wheel, Four-Wheel, and All-Wheel Drive
    • ALL internally lubricated components and:

    • Axles and bearings
    • Center support bearing
    • Constant velocity boot band
    • Constant velocity joints and boots
    • Differential carrier assembly
    • Drive axle housing8
    • Drive shaft
    • Hubs
    • Locking hubs
    • Seals and gaskets
    • Thrust washers
    • Universal joints

Honestly stuff being seized on is why I don't feel like doing it myself (6 yr old truck in NH salt land). I don't have the resources easily accessible to deal with it easily. When I talked to the dealer today the guy in service said he's seen bearings covered under warranty but I'd have to bring it by for them to inspect it and make sure it's the problem and go from there blah blah blah. I almost want to call back tomorrow and tell them the truck's lifted and if they don't want to do the work or claim they can't I'm not going to waste my time driving down there. I've had work done at Automotive Excess in Laconia, they're an offroad/4x4 biased shop and when they told me what was going on it was after they'd already done what I'd asked and the tech only noticed it when he was taking it for a drive after the work was done. Long story long he said if he'd driven it beforehand he would have noticed and we could have dealt with it before all the other work was done. Once he told me what he heard and showed me I realized I'd been hearing it for a while but attributed it to normal sound of ATs on the highway as I didn't have any other indication that the bearing was headed out the window.

Yeah, it kind of just sounds like a rumbling tire knobs sometimes...I figured mine out by putting it up on the jack and spinning the wheel....You can hear the grrrrind...and sometimes (if it's getting real bad) you can wobble it too...

That’s exactly what happened to me. Went onto the shop floor today and heard it and could feel the vibes through the shock too. No other play though. Passenger feels totally fine.

    Edit:
@TreeFortRichard it doesn't sound as bad like in the video but like I said, you can definitely feel the vibrations through the coilover when the wheel spins freely. But I but the sound i hear in the cab on the highway isn't the tires like I thought and has clearly been the bearing.

Money is great, but feeling good about getting up and going to work will keep you alive, trust me this took me a few years to get past. It's harder to move and adjust to a new salary once kids are part of the equation. I went to work in manufacturing to provide for my family, I left to be alive for my family.

If you end up in a career/job that is not fulfilling, eventually your soul is sucked out if you to the point of wanting to die.

I left a job making 25 plus an hour, between 5 to 10 hours OT a week, 100 percent medical and dental for whole family, multiple $1,000 bonus a year plus other perks. To a job that was less than 15 an hour, less than 40 hours a week and summers off. We struggle financially now, but I am here to see my kids grow up, I'm here to be part of my family.

Work demands are over the top in USA, we are working ourselves to death.

And if you're coming into the job market not willing to work yourself to death, it's frowned upon. I have a family member who is a high ranking partner in a financial company, doesn't ever stop working, emails, texts, etc. I get it, she gets the financial compensation for all that work, but I just don't want to do it. Happy to be going into the medical field where there are some stricter regulations, I'll work hard my 3 shifts a week but I am taking off those other 4. After the loans are paid off :D

I know how much it took me.
    More than double hourly.
    100%med
    AND AMAZING retirement package.
    We are miserable climate wise.
Snagged a place wicked cheap, and are putting the time/money into it.
But, I will be able to retire. Comfortably, if I can ride this out 25more years.

    Down home, about 40per
Here, I could work 40per, and I do occasionally.
I've had more than 80 here on a few occasions.
But I'd say 50-60 is my average.
I'll slow down to around 40-50 come the dead of winter.
