I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
I've got a nice little blister coming in on my finger. I accidentally touched the heat gun that I was using while trying to strip some paint today.

    There you go!

Not much got done here today. Sanded down a custom built steam radiator cover and threw a coat of paint on; been stalled on that project for 3 years. Now I have to chalk it up as a loss and give it away to my wife’s friend. That shit won’t be happening again.

Haha no - sold a spare pair of subaru sti fenders today - finally getting around to offloading all the spares I have.. for cars I no longer have. I found a rear diff for an evo today in my basement - didn't even know I had another one.

Got the winch in - haven't had a chance to tension it properly with the weight of the truck - I'll give that a shot tomorrow. The front bumper/headlight support gets in the way of the winch if I try to line the bumper back up to where it was originally so it's sitting about 1/2" lower than it used to sit which is fine until I get stuck on a rock under the front bumper because it's hanging down creating a lip to hook onto.

Photos can be found in my build thread of the install (give me an hour)... I now have more zip ties under my bumper than any of my DSM's combined.

    Morning all!

Tweaked my neck 5 minutes before bed last night. Slept like shit and it still hurts, gotta get the wife to give it some attention. Know a guy who recently ruptured a disc in his back and has to sleep in a prayer position while waiting for a surgery appointment...so I can't really complain too much.

    Jeez, boxing practice?

I'm making coffee, and waiting to make breakfast.

Need to get cracking up stairs for the spray foam.

My dog moved and I turned to look at him...I must be getting old:rofl:

Just had my coffee and a few meetings later today.

Be interested in hearing how the foam went, I've thought about spray foaming some areas before but wasn't sure how involved/messy it gets. Also wasn't sure I wanted to spend a bunch of money on spaces that I don't spend much time in.

Foam can be a touchy subject.
It has taken this long, for a couple reasons.. installed, it's about $1.38 per board foot, for closed cell.
Sorry, this is going to get kinda boring.
So, I have 2x6 rafters, and an old house.
UNINSULATED attic, is r49-r60 for code. At r49, its approximately 18.
Perfectly fine if you have an un-usable attic like our place in TX.(only place for storage is above garage, low, blah blah.
This place has a huge walk-up, and I installed a hydro-air unit up there. No place to run ductwork from the basement to second floor, or from basement to 3rd/attic, and then down.
So, the code gets kinda muddy.
Since it's so old, and I'm now insulating the attic, its r30-r38. But, I can only get r38, if I strap the joists.
But, doing to roof, AND walls in foam. Will basically stop airflow, and cut stack-effect, and the CC foam does add some strength, as well a vapor barrier, and air impermeability.
If I was to do fiberglass batts, I'd have to create and airspace between the roof, and the top of the insulation. No problem, sister the rafters. BUT, now, I'm susceptible to wind-wash, as I will have soffit and ridge vents, and the insulation becomes useless. So, we can add rigid foam, and caulk it all in, then add batts.
So, now, the cost of doing all this for the second floor, myself, is actually almost the same, as having a GOOD contractor come spray ir. Plus, they'll do a better job, AND it air seals....
I am not going with low bid, that is dangerous....
Also, keeps my piping, air handler, and ductwork all inside the envelope, increasing efficiency of that portion.
Remainder of walls that I haven't insulated, will get dense packed with cellulose. Does an excellent job of stopping air movement. especially in old houses.

House is 100+years old, so, insulating properly, and not creating a problem is tough.

As far as the mess, included in bid, will be prep, and cleaning.

Biggest challenge for me, will be getting it drywalled.

Depending on what you wish to do, it may or may not be worth it.
    I'm a fan.
    I know it works.

Sounds like it makes sense to have the pro come spray. I agree, low bid on stuff like this is silly, you will pay double down the road usually. It's smarter to save up a few more months and do it right. Old houses are really tough to do, my brother has a similar situation and could only get it so good without tearing down every wall and basically rebuilding the house.

Getting your attic sealed up tight will be a huge boon in this cold weather, I can almost see your money floating up there and flying all around your neighborhood as it is now. I'd be interested to see how much it saves on utility bills, but this is your first winter up here right? Not much to compare it to.

No, this will be the 3rd winter.
I burned 1100gallons of oil between Nov, and April(or may?) This past heating season.
During the blizzard, with all the cold, rain and wind, I had water coming off the roof like it was raining.

You ever look a the house on a February night with a thermal camera? Before we had our house (1954 welcome home boys 2x3 special) insulated there would be GIGANTIC thaw patches on the roof every time it snowed...
