Sure, purpose-built I can see. But for Joe Average who just wants to bomb trails it seems like a waste. Even if you're plowing or working them, most of them don't weigh enough to put the power from their 1000cc motors to the ground anyway. :notsure:

I use the "pick up at store" now more than ever for Lowes/HD/WalMart...Order online and then they email you when your order is ready for pickup. You don't spend hours wandering looking for someone to tell you where the out of stock thing you're looking for is no longer located...what a difference...walmart will now ship to you for free if it's over $35...Bird seed...suet..any stupid crap that means I don't have to deal with people...

That is good to know those places are good, I will be closer to those when I move to Hancock in a few months. I know snowmobiles are more accepted because they dont damage the trails really. The argument against atv/utv is that they dig ruts and destroy the trails. Even though our registration fees should cover upkeep...it seems that more space just keeps getting lost.

I have a half baked dream of buying up more property in Hancock at some point and doing a off-road park there. Probably won't ever happen...but I'll probably at least have a personal one.

If I didn't need high tow rating I'd be in on a Honda Rancher 400 this afternoon. I agree that the power is crazy. Same power in an atv that pushes a 4 door utv

We already had the old water heater removed to bring back to HD for warranty, which at first they didn't want to honor it. Then it took over an hour for someone to take down a new heater, and over an hour again after we found the first new one was damaged. I can only imagine how long it would take them to fulfill a "pick up at store" order. The old water heater crapped out, so we couldn't wait.

The Brute Force can be a bit "sporty", but it is definitely a utility oriented machine. The second Brute Force my uncle bought (got it in 2007, and still has it) now has a front bucket, which he uses to plow his driveway, but mostly using it to haul random stuff around his yard (small logs, rocks, etc.). He works it very hard, and it still starts and runs like new.

I agree with you. I've always had smaller displacement ATVs for trail riding. I also never had a winch so, if we got stuck, it was my buddies and I digging and pulling them out. But, they were light enough where that was a viable option. We don't have the bottomless clay pits like they do in other parts so just being able to lift them out was fine. When ATVs started 'growing up' I can't tell you how many times we'd come across someone buried in past their axles on one of the new 800cc+ monsters and trying to get the damn thing out without a winch. There's something to be said for light and maneuverable. I also had 2 strokes so power wasn't an issue on the smaller displacement ATVs.

My cousin has a '91 or '92 King Quad 300 that will go absolutely anywhere. It's got a super low range and a true diff lock, and the only time I ever saw him bury it he just engaged them both, then stepped off to one side and let it dig slowly itself out. If I were to buy an ATV, that's the sort of thing I'd want. Small, maneuverable, and a tank

Edit- Basically this exact same unit

I used to trail ride with a guy who had one of those and never, ever again! It was a tank but the suspension was terrible and it maxed out at like 35 MPH! We were always waiting for him because he couldn't keep up (and we weren't speed demons either).

Yeah, his is slow. But I don't trail ride; I'd be in it for the utility and the 'go anywhere'

At my current age, I'd likely consider one for the same reason. In my younger years, it was just old and slow. The lack of suspension was disappointing, might as well have been like the old ATC 3 wheeler with no suspension. I'd take an old school Honda Fortrax 300 any day. They were hard to kill also, but faster and more powerful than the King Quad.

Anyone know a good sandblaster/powdercoater not too far from East Bridgewater?

Just read that Honda had the trademark on ATC which is why we all call everything an ATV

I did not know that. I just remember the old 'Big Red' ATC 200.

Needs some frame work but not bad over all. Drivers rear cab mount gave out so the cab is slightly tweaked. I should be able to reconstruct that. But so it begins......
