Wound up one day doing a big loop north through VT and heading over to the Kancamagus and back home through NH. Gorgeous fall afternoon and she was laid up with a ruptured Achilles tendon, so hiking was out, but we took a drive up the Mount Washington auto road and hit a few other vehicle-friendly sightseeing spots.

 

Hey ham radio guys. What are the antennas and cables like for the ham radios? Do/can they use the same as the ones for CB's?

You laugh. I was judging people at Walmart one time and realized I wasn't in the position to, as I forgot butter at the grocery store and came to wally world for metal duct tape, and those were the only two items in my hand.


And for antennas, two different antennas unfortunately.

Fortunately, a good ham antenna can be had for $30 in complete with cable.

 

Do you think he uses the cup and fluff....

 

I assume you mean for the truck? 2M/440? If yes, RG-8X with PL-259 soldered center connector.

 

I think he's asking if he can use a cb antenna with ham gear.

 

If he's going through that much of it he's probably applying it with a crop duster.

So I just got in a huge argument with three of my co-workers here regarding an active shooter scenario. I want you guys that conceal or open carry to tell me... you are in a Wal-Mart shopping away and you hear high velocity, rapid gunfire inside the store. You know from the sound that it's likely one gunman. The shooter is not in your field of view but definitely inside the store. What is your immediate course of action? What is the first thing you do?

 

Find the closest safe exit. Help whoever is In reach to also reach safety. The sidearm is only if someone is in between us and the door.

The rest after that is a personal option and veiw of duty.

 

Ok, there's one view I agree with... I wish you were here for my lunch!

 

x2 and well said, in my opinion. Last thing I'd think you'd want to do is pull your side arm and get confused as the active shooter and cause confusion/get yourself shot by either the shooter or the police in the chaos.

 

Honestly if they're not right next to me I'm just heading for the exit. I carry for self-defense, not to try to engage somebody who's almost definitely equipped with something that outguns my little compact 9mm pistol, who came prepared to kill. Obviously this is hypothetical; I might react totally differently in the heat of the moment. But all of the doctrine out there says that you don't take on a rifle with a pistol if you can avoid it; that's a 'no other choice' sort of confrontation.

 

There is the logic of literally choosing your battles based on your outcome of success. But what about legality? Is choosing to find the shooter instead of exiting the area protected under law? Seems like a state-to-state would vary, obviously.
