    Yup. This.

Not to mention the ford's I worked had a fair amount of computer issues. Had that one go into a limp mode on a high risk sight and had to have someone come out an reflash it or whatever they do, wasn't a standard clearing of a code. The truck was dead dead.

They don't hate it as much as the Titans! I heard Nissan is killing off the Cummins in their XD, looks like they're sick of dealing with it.

That is honestly the thing I've loved most about owning a toyota my past two vehicles ('05 Highlander and my current '12 Taco). They've both been basic/straight forward as far as most general maintenance is concerned which is great for me considering I've had to learn to do most everything myself and with the help of friends (my dad has never been too handy with cars/trucks). The fact that I bought that highlander with 320k on it when an old lincoln I was driving shit the bed in college I knew I needed to learn how to maintain it simply due to the mileage. Ya'll are a huge help too, left my comfort zone back in RI of having a neighbor who was a retired mechanic who taught me most of what I know so far and pretty much any question I've had at least one of you has been able to help out which is cool to see! So kudos to you guys!:cheers::cheers:

EDIT: I still think it would be cool to have a mod/maintenance/meet-up day...not sure if one is planned. Besides seeing @BadDNA in my rearview a week or two ago it would be cool to put faces to names!

Well I mean you also have to remember how my truck was used. Full rack body fully stocked with tools. 60gal diesel fuel cell. Pipe rack for metal heavy schedual pipe. Full bed of compactor, saws, gasoline, ect. I'd drive them to far out remote NY and VT to go fix ticking timebombs. They don't put those things near towns or people.

The gmc normally just had the issue of interior falling apart.

The Ford would just go into partial limp mode as if it would when the fuel coagulates. But this was 2015 or so? Most of the time it was fixed on spot, just lost a lot of time. Only had to get towed twice.

3 gmc and 2 ford's in my work time.

Yeah, water jacket is coming off (again) tonight, as a just in case. I didn't grease it the impeller when I installed it; the how-to's that I watched just mentioned adding some dish soap to lubricate it until it started pumping water. I'll be sure to put some in the new one, though. I know that I can buy it right down at NAPA.
Pump housing looks fine (full of rubber, but no scoring) and was replaced at the same time as the impeller. It'll get replaced again anyway, with the new impeller.

No thermostat on this motor; if it's running, it's pumping water. Makes it kind of balky in cold weather, until it gets warmed up.

Hmm. Got me man, the only thing I don't like is the using soap and no grease. You really need marine grease in the pump housing. Then again, you've used it plenty this season already I assume? Or was that fateful trip the first of the season? It's a Merc so there is a tell tale.. you did confirm it was pumping after you installed it?

It hasn't gotten a lot of use this summer (been kind of a hectic year so far), but it's been out 4-5 times since the install, and seemed to be pumping fine. On the other hand, it may have just been slowly shredding itself, and was just pumping less and less until it quit. Who knows. TBH, I don't pay a lot of attention to the tell-tale; when I start it up I check to make sure it's spitting water, and mostly ignore it after that.

New one should be here tomorrow, so I'll pop the water jacket cover off tonight and reseal it for tomorrow. Maybe I can get the new one installed in time for a test run tomorrow evening, but I doubt it. :notsure:

    Cross-posted from the wheeling thread.

A friend of mine asked about someplace and somebody to show his daughter some 4-wheeling fun with her new Jeep. I volunteered to take them down to the RI spot and he's cool with a crowd, so here we go again...all makes/models welcome.

Yeah, Same thing I do. Make sure it's pumping and then forget about it. At least you know your overheat alarm works. An impeller can fail at any time, really, so maybe it's just bad luck. I have never personally seen one fail as bad as yours did.

I'm surprised it tanked that bad, but I guess it might just have started out as one bad vane that tore the others up. It was a Sierra brand that I bought from iBoats, but who knows how long these things sit on the shelf before they get shipped out. :notsure:

Sierra should be fine, I've used them a bunch. But yeah, could have sat on a shelf. In the sun. On the back deck, outside. Who knows.

I have a rebuilt set of LCAs sitting on my bench at home, ready to go on the truck. Who wants to wager about the degree of 'stuck' the current hardware is in? I'm going to try and do them tomorrow after work and see if I can get an alignment before this weekend.

What is everyone's opinion on tire age limits?

I'm doing a lot of going back and forth on the age of my snow tires. They are date coded mid-2013 and have probably 7-8/32 tread remaining, all even. I haven't looked at them lately for dry rot but they've always been stored properly (inside, out of light and away from any vehicle exhaust). I've read conflicting stories that anything post-5 years is dangerous, but I've read that Canada will sell tires legally as new until they reach 5 years old. Michelin's documentation says 10 years and Hankook's internal memo (the brand of my snows) says after 5 inspect them 2x a year.

I've got a set of 17" FJ steelies I'd love to slap a new set of slightly larger snows on, but given the second small human and the Jeep's tires already at 5/32 with only 31K on them, I'm wondering if I could get another season out of them. I don't want to skimp on safety, but $500-800 all said and done with mounting, TPMS, new lugs, etc is not insignificant right now.

I say run them until you have a reason not to. Keep an eye out for cracks, splitting or them getting out of round and run ‘em.

It's the daycare cost that stings. We have comparably cheap daycare and the cost for the two of them will exceed my mortgage.

The Kindercare near my work is nearly $500/week for an infant.

That's why I'm settling for goats.

    Unpopular opinion in 3...2...1.

The in-laws have two dogs that are SUPER annoying and some of my friends have dogs that are also SUPER annoying (poorly trained, loud, etc). I'd rather another child.
