    I hate to even admit this aloud let alone put it in type for all eternity, but I am seriously thinking about getting a Yaris for commuter duty. You can get a '12 with relatively low miles for like $5k. Talk about cheap transport.

    Since you brought it up, I've been looking at those also. I found an older Yaris with like 50k miles on it for $2k. My brother in law had one because he ran delivery for a pizza place. He beat on it and it lasted over 250k miles. Tiny, but effective transportation.

    A very good buddy of mine in Vermont (pretty serious car guy too) owned one and it was cheap, ran great, got insane gas mileage and lasted forever. It was kinda a goofy little thing but it's hard to deny how perfect of a commuter car it is. I have been highly considering getting my dream HD truck and then buying one of them to keep the mileage off it.

    Check the front subframe assemblies behind the engine if you do look at any. They liked to rust there on the 1st gens. I've seen a couple that looked like a lace tea cozy.

    Spent 1800 on my POS civic, expected it to last a year....2 years later, 2 oil changes and gas are the only money I put in to it.
    I'm actually hoping the dam thing dies for next year's Tacoma event so I can donate it to beat the shit out of it and drive trucks on it:thumbsup:
    @crashngiggles

    2009 civic, the little POS that just keeps going.:rofl:

    I owned a Honda Fit for a few years. 5 speed manual. Fun car, especially around town. The little engine loved to rev. Did a squirrely dance when the vtec kicked in. Very dependable. Same class as a Yaris.

    Edit: Not a great highway car, especially in rainy/windy conditions.

    A good friend got 390,000 out of a Fit he bought brand new. It’s got 500,000 on it now from the new owner. He beat that thing senseless.

    While we are on the used car talk.

    Wife just told me she wants a small VW, doesn’t care if it’s used. If we buy used I want a manual transmission and I am pretty sure a beetle is preferable but not a deal breaker. This is because tonight was the mid way point in our son’s drivers ed class.

    Some of the Taurus V6 engines had head gasket issues, but they could have resolved it by then.

    Torque converters in the 24 valve engine were rubbish..

    I've not seriously inspected it since, but my truck got coated in April..stop by sometime or I'll run by if you want to scope it out

    My buddy had a S-10 and after he sold it, the truck got flipped over. Guy walked away without a scratch.
