Not sure, but they're seen as a sign of weakness in MA.

I'm at a crossroads here in my tacoma life. So obviously love the truck, but getting two trucks from my FIL, means I don't need 3 trucks. Might repair my issues via insurance and sell the tacoma. That would leave us with a 4runner, plow truck w/dump, and huge moving/whatever truck w/dump also. Insurance for both those trucks would be lower than the taco too, since they aren't worth much on paper.

I don't know. Would sell it private party, put some money in the trucks I'm getting to just make sure everything was 100% and then use the rest for savings/bills etc....

Part of me wants to go full into the old truck life, the 4runner is reliable and will last another 50-70k easy without much work. But I love my taco....:goingcrazy:

Yeah, neither are daily drivers. I was sorta thinking of dropping a crate motor and new tranny in the sierra 3500. That would make it more reliable and worry free as far as the engine goes. I am hoping some new bushings and fresh suspension/springs will take care a lot of the rest. I need to take a real hard look at it though before I make any big choices.

Ha, maybe. It certainly wouldn't need any new emissions crap since it's so old.

Exactly. You can put a 12v Cummins in it, make some crazy power with a few twists of your screwdriver, and haul ass!

I'm already drooling over power chips/exhausts/intakes for my 7.:broccoli:

For anything other than local driving, both of those old trucks would get, well, old in a hurry. Speaking from personal experience, actually. I love taking the '69 for a drive, but I would rather take the bus than drive it much further than the border. The '84, about 90 minutes is my max. Home Depot run? No problem. Tow the boat to Eustis? Forget it.

Not to poke a hole in that dream, but you can easily pick up an older (still reliable) Tacoma for a lot less than what a Cummins swap would cost you. Last time I checked a refurb'd crate motor (JUST the motor, none of the ancillaries) was around $4500

Yeah, then an adapter plate, flex plate, and some funky wiring. You can find a clapped out 12v truck for like $1,500

Yeah, but those usually come with clapped out wiring, a ton of deferred maintenance, etc.

He already said that his dream was to drop a crate motor and tranny in it, not do a diesel conversion!

We already use the 4runner for the road trips, has more space in it. And I know those other trucks would be no fun on long hauls. I need to check them out more, and take them for a spin, my 12 year old (i was 12, not 12 years ago) memories of the sierra in my dads field might be a little different than the reality of a 3500 with a dumper on it.

@Noelie84 is right, the cummings isn't number 1 on the list. I'd rather just go for a gasser.

If I still had my Tacoma, I'd feel it was comfortable enough to take on a road trip. But the 4Runner is definitely more comfortable. I'm just shy of 23K miles in 10 months.
