I haven't tried the Captain Private stock or the Bacardi 8. I've had Appleton Estates, which is decent in the right mixed drink, Pussers, great for warm weather beach drinks and Captain. I'm not at all a fan of silver rums.

Is Bacardi 8 spiced at all? It not spiced, I'll give it a go but may not be for me. I'm not really a fan of Bacardi Gold. I've used 151 quite a few times to make jungle juice at parties though.

Nah, just a blend of aged golden rums, I think between 8-15 years old. And of course they're aged in the tropics, so they pick up a lot of barrel character pretty quickly. The bottle says to drink it on the rocks, but I tend to like it most straight up with a splash.
Private stock is aged well but is still spiced rum. It loses a lot of the regular spiced sugar-bomb tendencies but is still pretty sweet, and because of the extra vanilla it picks up from the barrel the strongest flavor (or at least the first one) I get from it is almost eggnog.
Appleton's alright too, but I was spoiled by the 12yo stuff we bought on-site in Jamaica and I still haven't found a US-market blend that is as good.

Hell no! I can't stomach cheap gin. I can mix cheap vodka pretty easily but cheap gin is a tough liquor to tolerate.

There is only one thing that I ever mix my booze with. Water. Makers Mark and water. I require nothing else. Except the occasional Manhattan.

Man, I hate whisky and rye alcohols so I may just have to try a rum on the rocks, I've always just been a beer guy since I hate sipping whiskey.

My in-laws go to drink is the Manhattan, don't see many people drink them anymore. The whole family drinks them though.

Same here, not a fan of sipping whiskey or scotch, and I've had what would be considered some really good ones. Some of the really high end ones are certainly smoother, just still not something I enjoy.

Hmmm...That does explain why so many bartenders have started looking at me askance when I order one. I've never seen an episode of Mad Men, but I do like a well-made Old Fashioned.

Getting new tires put on this weekend. Saturday I went to get my inspection since it was up and knew that my tires were borderline going to fail but at least wanted to get the R sticker to buy me some time to get the new ones on. Ended up passing inspection but it's time for new tires. I'm honestly surprised they didn't fail me.

I had that when I went for my Mazda but I'm in RI. Dude didn't even turn the lights on, plugged it in and off we went. I was nursing them since I knew I wanted to trade in, pulled them off to rotate or something and saw the steel bead o_O got new tires after that.

Boring but staying with stock tires, Goodyear wrangler all terrains. I'm most likely going to be trading in this truck in the Fall so didn't feel like 'upgrading'.

Damn, you're a better man than me. If I was trading, I'd find some cheap stock take offs from Craigslist and be done with it!

Any of you guys ever have a chimney rebuilt? One of mine isn't too healthy. Last year pieces of brick were falling off, I had lots of efflorescence, and a previous owner filled in bricks with red cement or something to make them look right again. Probably a third of the bricks don't look good at this point. Last fall I cleaned much of the efflorescence off with acid (but some was stubborn and I couldn't get it) and sprayed a chimney sealer on it. I'm not seeing any more bricks falling apart, but I doubt I bought a ton of time since it's turning white again.

I don't think it's something I'd try myself--I'm not confident I'd have it looking good in the end. Plus if I'm spending the money, I'd really like stone instead. I think/hope the chimney itself is okay and it's just the outer brick facing. The flues look perfect.

Not 100% sure on trading it, so we'll see. If I don't I'd be pissed at myself for not getting something better.

That's what I did with the mazda. Chinese special since I knew it was going :p

Where in New England are you?

Eh, I've been happy enough with the stock tires to take them on for another 50k.
