Hopefully the call to repel boarders doesn't sound; but it'd probably happen in your area before it happened in mine just due to population density. If it happens around here, it'll be safe to say that things will have well and truly gone to sh*t.

Yeah I should get my fishing license. A few catfish in the freezer wouldn’t be the worst thing.

I just don’t think people understand what non perishable means.

Most of the people under 40 haven't undergone any real serious problems in their lives like this. Everyone has life problems, but they've never lived through a bigger event like this, myself included. I'd say gen-x and down is in general, severely lacking in anything related to real world skills once the power is gone.

Yup, I usually go first thing on a weekend morning or late evening during the week. Both times are quiet. Unless I drive 25 miles, we just have a Stop and Shop and Big Y here. I hate Big Y with a burning passion, so Stop and Shop it is. I really wish we had a Wegmans. They are out in Western/Central NY and Central/Eastern MA but skip by this area for some reason.

Hey Don't hate that big-y. There are always workers in the checkout line, that's something you can't find in any other store in our county besides places like Guidos!!!

edit: stop and shop is better, but I hit big-y for some lunch sometimes.

I think their prices are high. Last time I was in there, I looked at things I always buy at Stop and Shop and the prices were consistently significantly higher. I also get frustrated with the store layout--in most other grocery stores I can find what I need pretty quickly without having to hunt around. Seems like everything there is where I least expect it to be.

The one that really gets me (and it may sound ridiculous) is how they make their employees dress. A black tie and shiny black dress shoes is ridiculous for a grocery store employee and I think it's insane to ask people pushing carts across a parking lot to dress that way--let them wear comfortable and practical clothing like just about any other retail store. It just feels like they have misplaced priorities there.

I don't shop there besides the lunch sometimes, and that was more when I lived in Savoy, so I'm not sure about pricing differences but will certainly believe you. I think the layout is shit too, and their selection isn't as good. And while I get your point about their outfits...I sort of like it. There is no tradition anymore!! But you are right, misplaced priorities. I feel like Big-Y is going hard with Market 32 brand, and they probably have lost interest in the brand that got them there. At least that's how it feels when you compare both stores and know they have the same owners.

I thought Big Y was privately owned by the family that opened it and Market 32 was still part of Golub?

I mostly like Market 32. I do feel they put more emphasis on show than selection, but it's an improvement over Price Chopper.

You're right, I got confused between price chopper and big-y. I like market 32 as well.

I went to big y last night for groceries. The only thing they were out of was toilet paper and disinfectant wipes. Everything else they had, I was impressed. The stop and shop a half mile down the road had basically nothing on the shelves.

This is why I think something like Boy/Girl Scouts are important. If I had kids you damn well know they would be involved in either. The lack of knowledge people have when all the things and ways that make our life so easy are gone is crazy.

I was a Boy Scout. Got a lot out of it could have gotten more. The Girl Scouts go one of two ways. Either very helpful in that sort of way, or not at all. There’s no middle ground.

Unfortunately, both my parents were not from the country so they didn't know anything about the scouts when my sister and I were younger. I wish I got into it like a few of my friends but oh well had to learn a lot of stuff on my own. I didn't realize there was inconsistencies with the girl scouts.

depends on leadership and group. There were some useless Boy Scout troops in my area. But a lot of Girl Scout leaders are, not to sound chauvinistic or anything, but suburbia soccer moms who don’t do the whole wilderness thing. And let’s be fair when I was in scouts there were plenty of suburbia dads who didn’t do the whole wilderness thing too. But they accepted that and weren’t the leadership. My sister did a lot of sleepovers at museums and fundraising, and went to summer camp like, once, but not with her group (troop?) because they didn’t do camp. My Boy Scout troop went to camp every year.

Anyone in Worcester county need any free firewood? Power company cut one of three marked trees down on our property Friday 3/13 and just left the wood... I won’t use it. On the Upton/Grafton line. C82B9955-80D9-471F-A6FF-A20400167BCF.jpg
