    Yep.
I've got a commute that's all of 10-15 minutes, so 13-15mpg's not that painful. But it lets me tow/carry pretty much whatever I want without breaking a sweat and also hang a real plow on the nose.
Really the only downside is that it rides like a buckboard and the roads around here suck dead donkey balls from November-April, and just regular donkey balls the rest of the time.

Hell I'm in a tacoma I only get 20mpg o_O Ram 25 gets like 14 anyway. Not dramatically different anyway, until they start talking hybrids. Rumors of a hybrid raptor now too. Could just be as small as the ram hybrid thing for auto start/stop (which I'd permanently turn that shit off too....) but who knows. Also rumors they're dropping the raptor extended cab :(

That's what I was curious about - I know the area, HD suspension without a load up there would be rough!

I always thought if I got a HD truck I’d switch out the suspension. Now I know you’d loose a lot of capacity... but I’m
Never gonna tow 35k anyways and I bet I could find something decent that could hold a plow up.

I don’t know how realistic that is though.

The new HD trucks drive like a dream. Try running around in a 70’s leaf spring 1 ton. My kidneys are still recovering from the bruises!

If you have the $$, it's realistic but you'd spend some money getting it done. The new Chevy 3/4 ton trucks still ride pretty damn well and I've heard the new Ram 3/4 tons do as well with the coil over rear suspension but the front end is still fairly stiff. If you want a nice-riding 3/4 ton, I'd give Chevy a good look before buying something else and spending a lot of money trying to make it ride nice. The Ford doesn't have a lot of front suspension travel so you don't have a lot of opportunity to put softer springs on it and avoid bottoming out.
Clearly you haven't been in a new Ford  It's not as bad as the old 1 ton leaf-sprung trucks but they're far from good. Mine got 'better' with the new shocks I put on but it still rides like a hay wagon unloaded. My '19 rides worse than my '18 did. I'll have to check the build sheets sometime, I think my new truck was built with the heavy service front end. My dad has a newer Chevy 2500 and it's night and day different from my Ford, his rides much better although I think part of it is the extra weight he has from the diesel engine.

Honestly with how much you can do with trucks nowadays...A full size is all I'll ever need. If I need anything bigger than that, it would be a business vehicle and I'm not paying for it anyway :D Or, if I do need it, it's few and far between, I'll just rent/pay for the big truck for that purpose, not to own it the other 360 days/year.

Been there done that have back problems (not really, but have been there done that, oof).

My last truck was a 96 Cummins 3/4 ton. Rode pretty well up front - of course it probably had 4500 lbs up front. Back end just bounced. Back in the late 80s, we had a shop truck resprung due to cracked leaves early 80s 1 ton 4x4 chebby. That think would make you hit the roof as you hit every cigar butt on the road!

My primary motivation was plow-related; to get a real plow on a modern truck you have to go with a 3/4 ton or better; the ones that you can hang on a half ton are pretty light-duty because your half ton FS trucks are built with such soft front suspensions. The towing anything & everything was just a nice bonus :D

Edit- Even the payload on this truck (2300lbs) isn't absurdly higher than my F150 was (1800?), but it is nice to be able to put a full ton-weight pallet in the back without maxing the springs & tires when I need to.

Fair enough - I have a 3 car driveway and sure as hell don't need a plow. I bought a snowblower (plug in, electric...small...50 bucks on craigslist :D), that was more than enough for this year at least. Should do plenty for my needs. That said a base F250 is pretty well outfitted and cheap compared to an equivalent F150 o_O

We'll see what my next vehicle prospects hold. If there's a plug in hybrid Tacoma I'm pretty much sold on a new vehicle.

That was why I bought one. The cabs are identical also, at least they were through 2019, not sure if that continued through 2020. I sort of wish I was in the market for a new truck now. The F250 with the 7.3 is a beast and a bargain compared to the diesel option (IMO) and you can now get the 6.2L v8 with the 10 speed tranny behind it which should help with towing and economy (still not going to be a Prius, but it'll do better).

I've heard some horror stories from the 10R80 in the F150. Might just be people with the 5.0 bashing the shit out of it and then complaining. The 10 speed in the SD is different than the 10R80 though, might be better. For what I need, a 5.0 is more than enough grunt, though, so that's all I'd end up with if I went for something bigger than a tacoma. A raptor is not off the table forever, so I'm excited to see what the next gen brings with it :D (and I would do a raptor ranger depending what the 6th gen has in store for that too!)

I am hoping they don't drop the Lariat extended cab. I really want a loaded Lariat Sport SuperCab next time around. Beginning to think that when this virus dies down I might look to see what's on lots for 2020s. I wasn't going to do it for another year, but if Ford threw a lot of money on the hood to try to move things after this virus, I could swing it.

I looked at that--an F-250 Lariat is similar in price to an F-150 XLT. Problem is, when I'm driving 52+ miles a day 3/4 ton mileage would hurt. That and it won't fit in my garage. And I just barely tow and haul enough to justify an F-150...I really don't need an even bigger truck.

They might start dropping some specific trim options/powertrain options/cab option combos. If you're looking for a new truck, and like the current F150s, now is the time to buy (or when this dies down a bit). Later when the next gen is announced, you're going to see an uptick in demand for the current generation - both people who already knew they didn't want it and waited for the announcement to use it as a bargain chip, and also people who see it and considered waiting for the new models and then decided....nah.

I don't haul enough to justify more than my old Mazda, but I still got a Tacoma. I think mid size is my DD sweet spot, I like the size. I do like the F150 flat floor in the back though, would make my life easier, and realistically they aren't that much bigger - we'll see what the next generations bring in terms of powertrains, MPG, etc etc etc to see if I switch in a few years. As is, I'm happy to keep the tacoma to 20 years as long as the frame doesn't drop out on it :D
