we have 3 Nest E from the masssaves deal and love em. Only Use them to control the 2 wire Baseboard heat.

Edit: didn’t realize they’re down to $39 now...

If you only have 1 zone you can get there little add on sensors. We change where it reads the temp from depending on time of day, other wise the bedroom is hot at night.

Same here. Only toy I have is a 2002 Yamaha Grizzly 660. Couldn't justify spending a lot on an ATV that I mostly use for yard work and plowing the driveway, so I picked up an older one. I have taken it to October Mountain a few times, but in the year I've had it I've put less than 100 miles on it.

we have 3 zones but upstairs where the bedrooms are is 1 zone so I may get the add on sensors for the bedrooms since the tstat is in the hallway and the doors are usually closed.

We have one zone best and ac. The nest fried a back plate and then when they replaced that in a few weeks after that it stopped signaling for heat. So. We got a Honeywell for 1/3 the cost and haven’t had any issues. We don’t do the geofence stuff. Wife works from home and is in and out all the time. We programmed it and it’s nice to have the remote control of it. We can set it to vacation mode etc. we have forced hot water heat and central air. It works wonderfully for us.

my toy list contains a boat. I’d want something with a cabin though. Problem is the tangible tax down here is bruuuutal. Maybe an atv but only if I could also use it for lawn stuff. Our driveway is too small to make sense with that and the yard is too small to make sense with that...so that’s a wait until next property sort of thing.

Yes, I've had to train guys right out of college how to read measuring instruments, basic g and m codes, how to search for a tool in a program, etc. And some get it and end up doing alright til they figure out their own little ways of doing things. Others, constantly messing up, not doing their articles of inspection, blatant lack of pride in their work, would rather socialize or play on their phone than learn how to run the machines and do their job. Oh or that not every machine has a USB port, some need the RS232 cable or floppy disc, or if you can find one, one might need the tape!

I use my 4 wheeler to tow my compost spreader about 3 times a year, bring gear around my woods for projects, and I have access to a lot of acreage and land with trails all around my house that sit on private properties. I "down graded" from a polaris ranger, but I find an atv much more useful for woods work and ability to trail ride. Also much cheaper to maintain and easier to work on.

I tore out a few rose bushes with mine the other day. They snagged me every time I mowed the lawn. It was very satisfying.

I work in a machine room too and have been for 34 years this summer. Love when they hire kids who never ran any kind of machine or even picked up a measuring tool. The best - trying to explain to them we are moving the tool in a positive direction so the negative offset is going to get smaller. Some get it most don’t.

yeah I’ll probably end up with one for combo fun and yard work if and when we get a larger property.

happened to me last year. Wife came home and I had taken a sawzall to the tree and two bushes with thorns. No more thorns. I will not plant anything with thorns. It’s stupid. There’s so many things that can take their place without thorns.

... And we have guys who can't even read a height gauge. Lol.

That's OK. As always with the trades. Those who want to learn, will.

Yes, I do find the look on peoples faces quiet priceless when you show and tell them abiut x and y negative/positive work offset in the machine. They dont grasp that its based off where the tool is going not the way the table is moving

WTF??? 1 out of 5?! Did you shit on the boss's desk or something? Sorry to hear that. I hope that never happens again especially if you are a hard worker with good report with clients and coworkers. In my company, 1 out of 5 is almost as hard to get as 5 out 5. Like @Bridge4 said, I think you be an asset to any company with your work ethic and being a team player.

I also got my review a week before I got furloughed. My boss rated me higher than I did myself. lol

Which is funny. Because in on paragraph I feel I understand the concept.

I'm a welder, and we are dumbasses. So everyone should get that haha

Basically if you look at a standard X and Y coordinate plane, the tool "moves" positive to the right and also up, but for the table, if you move the table in the direction most think is positive, the tool is going negative

Our rating system is screwy and very subjective. When I started, they did a big roll out on the review process and, depending on if you or your manager was at that training, will very much change your mentality on reviews. We're a 1-5 scale, 3 is meets expectations. The training told us that a good employee, performing well and one we would want to keep so if you get 3's across the board, you should be happy. 4's means you're out performing in your role and likely ready for a promotion. Say my manager was at the training and I get 3's across the board but someone else's manager was not and gave their employee 5's across the board. Once again, life's not fair but I hope that things eventually level out (wishful thinking at times, I know).
I've been watching some YouTube videos on the massive milling machines, it's cool watching them work. I'm half-assed learning how to weld, I'd love to learn how to use some of the other equipment though, in my current career path, I have no professional reason to know so I hope it turns out to be at least a hobby.

perfect example of doing your job well but not playing office politics well. I take the middle ground. I involve myself enough to not be screwed over like that but that’s it. I’ve saved myself a time or two.

They're fun to watch, my favorite is 5axis milling, but mill turns, and Swiss machines can be pretty crazy. The shop I'm at now I just setup and run a 3axis vertical CNC milling center. I have ran 4 axis vertical, 4 axis horizontal, regular 2 axis lathes, lathes with live tooling, lathes with live tooling and a true Y axis, manual machines, other stuff

Yeah I'm the same way. I am definitely not a brown noser but I get along with pretty much all the superiors I deal with. I am not afraid to speak my mind and will raise up issues when I have to but I am not going to be an asshole about things.
