Very true. I have never owned a first or second year of a new vehicle gen.
Definitely! I tend to want vehicles with not too much of these new "features". My other vehicle is 2004 Jeep Wrangler TJ which has manual everything (transmission, transfer case, windows). The only nice "features" it has is A/C, CD player, and a dimmable mirror with a digital compass.

I have a sign up at my desk that says “WARNING Don’t be a dumbass here at the workplace. OSHA does not require this sign but they require several others that say the same thing”

My EHS manager for the region found it and, fortunately, found it funny!

I dunno, I drove one and it didn't feel special or bad to drive, and I've only read good things about the ZF8 transmission. Then again, it is a FCA transmission so.......could implode with no warning.

I mean, my EHS manager laughed and found it hilarious but someone else (might not have been HR, who knows) found it less funny. whatever. I know the crap my HR team has to deal with day to day with our 175 person plant, I'm not going to give them a headache from my end.

Our Jeep has the ZF8, but it’s made by FCA, not ZF. I like it. The ESS system can GDIAF. The fact it shuts off mid-intersection is terrifying. I hate when I forget to disable it.

I put all new bulbs in my roof lights to try and solve the troublesome light issues. I just had one bulb not ignite on the first try. I’m on vacation in two weeks. The HID is coming out and halogen is going in. I’m done.

I’m still waiting for GM to restart part production. I am waiting for the shift boot for my car I ordered mid-May. I was shipped the wrong part and have been waiting for a replacement. What stinks is I’m not outside the EBay guarantee window but it’s a reputable vendor. Once I get the boot it’s new shifter, knob, boot and radio surround time.

    It’s always something, I suppose.

I was going to say almost the same thing that Jason did. Even though they might be impossible to totally keep away I'm sure Chis didn't want them in the bag with his food, delivered to his house.
If the 1st gen is the same as the 2nd gen you should get some of those bolts at the dealership too. They get shitty really quick
I just rented that same type of trailer and had zero issues with the brakes.

I've had a few that tow like a dream and some that the surge brakes were completely abused and weren't working very well at all, very jerky. Generally, it seems most Uhaul places have gotten better with their equipment but there are still a few old POS' in the fleet. When I bought the dirt bike from Tony @Boston10Taco I went through 4 trailers to finally get one. The first three had significant, noticeable wheel bearing issues.

Or when they steal your wallet!

So I drove the RAM last night, it's a beautiful truck. I need to go drive a Ferd now with that twin turbo. Without actually talking to someone about numbers it looks like the Ford will cost me more for the same type of trim level. But better resale maybe.

Yeah, if I had a travel trailer I would definitely opt for the HD package because of tongue weight. My sled trailer is light, the boat is heavy but very light tongue weight. Probably less than 10% especially with a full tank of fuel in the boat. That's why it sucks to tow but the 10ply tires help big time. Whatever I get I will have E-rated Michelins put on for sure.

2.7 or 3.5? Apples to apples will be the 5.0 V8, but I think Ferd doesn't put that in some of the upper trims, not sure what you're looking at.

Also are you looking at MSRP? Nobody pays MSRP for a Ferd, noooooobody pays MSRP for a RAM

I think I'd want the 3.5 but I don't know. The Ford motors confuse me. With the 5.0, it seems they are a lot less common. The discounts on RAM seem bigger than Ford, but I'm not sure until I actually start talking numbers. MSRP's look similar for like trim levels but Fords sell like crazy so I think it might be harder for me to work a deal.

What Michelins do you usually go for? I've been pretty happy with the AT2 on my last few trucks. I'd like to try the MS2 at some point though.
You can still get the 5.0 all the way up to the Platinum trim. The Limited I think now comes with the high output 3.5 ecoboost though. It does seem like a lot of dealerships order the high trim packages with the ecoboost more often than not though. The 5.0 and the 3.5, on paper, are pretty close now. They squeezed a lot of power out of the N/A 5.0 and it's pretty close to the ecoboost in terms of performance (although if you drive one, the ecoboost trucks just seem more willing to get up and go).

They sell like crazy for a reason - huge discounts, and fleet sales. Ford sold 70k fleet trucks, total 900k units (rough numbers from a 2 second google). That's a big number when it comes to sales (considering the ranger sold something like 100k total). Plus how many "commercial" trucks aren't counted as fleet.

You tow a lot? The 5.0 doesn't have the highest tow numbers in the F150, the 3.5 does. RAM is trying to claw back after they were the butt joke of the domestic trucks, so they go cheap, 5.7 is a good engine, I guess flip a coin on the transmission. Sadly the 5.0 isn't as common, it's sort of a niche thing, since it doesn't have the best towing or MPG, someone who wants "a truck" doesn't care.

Yeah I put E-rated AT2's on my Sierra and it tows great, big difference. I've had them before when I had my Taco, actually two pairs, but obviously not the E-rated. Do they make the MS2 in the E-rated? My tires right now have probably 30k miles on them and they look like brand spanking new.

Invoice on an F-150 is about 93% of MSRP. On a truck on the lot, that minus manufacturer incentives would be my starting point. I hear of people getting well below invoice, but most dealers around here will only go slightly below so that might be a city thing. At invoice, they'll make about 2.75% on the deal barring any volume based incentives or anything. You can also probably get a $2-$3k private cash offer popup right now if you spend some time browsing Ford's site. That works on top of all discounts and incentives. I'm seriously considering replacing this truck because I got a $3k one.

Also, the "DM" button on the gearshift puts it into sport mode. That really shows off just how much low end power the EcoBoosts make. My 2.7 with 3.73 gears is an absolute rocket up to 60 or so. Highway passing is still very good, but not quite as impressive as its off the line performance.

I tow a lot of miles but nothing super heavy, nothing a standard full size can't handle. My sled trailer is tall but probably 3500lbs loaded and my boat is probably 4500lbs.

Any midsize truck except the gladiator can pull those not big deal, a full size shouldn't blink. I used to tow about 3500lbs with my 3.whatever ecoboost and I could pass other cars easy with it behind me.

Yeah, I could technically pull both with a Tacoma but pulling a tall enclosed in the snow really requires a full size. Plus GVWR.
