I know some of the GM vehicles have radio options going for $1000+. I rarely use my CD player, but it's nice to have when I want it. I don't really care about having a larger screen like the 2020 Entune units have.

Toyota should experiment with selling the Hilux under the Lexus brand. People buy Limited Tacomas, people buy GXs, people pay Pro prices for a Tacoma. Why wouldn't people buy a quality truck with a Lexus badge? Who wouldn't want a Tacoma with a nice interior and more power twin turbo V6?

Ford tried that with Lincoln Mark LT. Only lasted 3 years before they just made the F-150 Platinum package. Also, I can't see a pickup looking good with the current Lexus styling.

Edit: Do you really want to see this on the road?

I don't think a reworked Hilux with a Lexus bumper would be the best looking truck, but if a buyer was cross shopping a Ridgeline they don't care what their truck looks like. Toyota would have to modify the Hilux to meet US crash standards anyway, style it after the current GX.

I think they would price it somewhere around 50 or 60k, which would send most truck buyers to a full size domestic, but people buy GXs over Tahoes and Expeditions all the time.

the ridge line is proof that a 50k price tag will not send someone to a full size domestic.

Went to do the front brakes on the truck... All the pins were seized and the passengerside caliper piston was stuck. Had no choice but to get an autozone caliper. I wonder how well this caliper is going to hold up considering Toyota brand was nearly double/triple the price...

It probably won't. That's why AutoZone things usually come with lifetime warranty. They know you'll be replacing it again next year.

True, didn't know the Ridge lines got that pricey.

4dr Wranglers and Gladiators are up in that range also. 4dr Wrangler buyers who don't need a Jeep might gravitate toward a Lexus Hilux.

I'm surprised the Ridgeline would be that pricey too. I could see the Pilot costing that much, but the Ridgeline interior seemed bare compared to the Pilot.

Hm. Looked them up they’re pricier but not as much as I thought I remembered. The top line black edition is 43k but that’s starting before you get carpets delivery etc etc. maybe not as much as I remembered them being. But still pretty expensive in terms of a mid size pickup.

edit just went on Honda to build one the lower trims don’t have awd until you get to the top trims. And they don’t have a base trim anymore. Starting is like 36k bare minimum.

Prices are getting up there. Last time I was at the dealership, they had a TRD OR with a Tech Package for $42K.

I bought Advance remanufactured calipers when I had me 2011 and they started sticking within a year. They replaced them under warranty but told me it's a one time deal. I traded the truck with those on it so I don't know how long the second set lasted.

Something about a front wheel drive pickup just seems wrong.

The price for the Tacoma is inflated. Toyota was successful with the Lexus IS it's still a desirable model of the Lexus line up. That car was introduced to America in 2000 when inflation was high, and it was still a success for a vehicle that the market didn't need. Toyota could repeat their success buy launching a new truck model to their Lexus lineup. Lexus quality, Tundra power, and the nimbleness of a Tacoma. Since the Lexus Hilux would be a unique vehicle it wouldn't have a negative impact on 4th gen Tacoma, and Tundra sales, and still share the same platform. Toyota could also focus more attention on building a more work oriented offroad Tacoma.

by all boxes the ridge line makes way more sense for a tuck for me than the Tacoma does. I’m still happy with my decision. If they make a hybrid I would consider getting one and a trail beater. But that would be like 45k for a hybrid probably. I’ve heard bad news about the 9 speed but haven’t had any experiences myself.

whatever. I’m happy with what I have for now. :D will probably end up with a tent cot for camping rather than RTT.

Still looks better than the Ridgeline!
I think the average time people actually own their vehicles is what keeps that lifetime warranty going. People tend not to own vehicles long enough to put 3-4 sets of brake pads on them. Or, they forget about the warranty next time it needs pads and just buy new stuff again.
