Yeah but it is a diesel. Do they use that oil as part of its lubrication system for the top rings as it's got super high compression/boost? It's not like they have to worry about fouling spark plugs or anything.

No, not part of the lubrication. All that blow by just mucks up the throttle body, EGR system and intake valves. It should have nothing but clean, fresh air in the intake. It also wouldn’t be terrible if it were clean oil by diesel oil is pretty laden with soot (big thanks to the EGR system). There’s a lot of nasty crap kept in suspension in diesel oil. When I changed it, oil minder was still at 65% but it was jet black.

That's why I kind of liked the two Cummins Dodges I had. It was all pre emissions BS for diesel, so the crankcase simply vented out below the truck.

Yeah oil being black is pretty common. It would be cool if they come up with a way to vent the crankcase AFTER the throttle body.

There are kits that do that. I bought the catch can trying to be responsible and not vent it straight out but still keep the oil out of the intake.

If I could get rid of anything, i’d take out the EGR, I really don’t think that’s helping the truck’s longevity. The SCR and DPF system have lots of sensors that are prone to failing but aren’t actively trying to ruin the engine. But, lots of warranty so all the Al Gore crap has to stay for the time being.

Or, just come up with an air oil separator that actually works!

My dad’s Duramax has a much different system. There’s a lot more vertical travel in the crank case vent to drop oil out of the air before the separator.

One more reason I didn’t get the duramax Colorado. I considered it but modern diesels are just all over the place in the states.

Any recommendations for a “new” canoe? I want one that can be carried short distances and loaded by myself.
I bought this 16ish ft pelican explorer a few years ago for $200 and it has served well but the sun and dragging rock bottoms have worn it out.
I am looking for something of similar size, capable of holding heavier loads (2 adults, child, small dog) or 2 adults fully loaded for duck hunting.
It may see salt water as well.
I have seen a ton of 17’ aluminum Grunmans and was curious how the riveted seems hold together on those.

I've got a bottle of this...It went on every nut and bolt when I did the hubs and brakes...and trailer hitch...and....everything...the only issue can be the "Proper Torque" with a lubricant...

Never done one so I may take you up on it actually. Brakes, oil changes, etc and other general maintenance are all I usually attempt besides putting my lift in, but that wasn't done alone. Have plenty of hand tools just not my floor jack currently, that's down in RI...

Edit: Would probably be a better idea to do it before I undercoat the truck for the winter. NH Oil guys spray THIIIIICCK

I'm about 3 miles on the far side of Walter's Basin from you if you need a bottle jack(I'm not civilized enough for a floor jack) and jack stands. I did my wheel bearings about five years ago. They were super easy to do, but I also tend to half ass things. My biggest mistake was lifting both sides of the vehicle at once--I had to jam the opposite side into the ground to stop it from turning. That was all before I bought into the cordless impact wrench stuff.

I changed the oil on the girlfriend's CX5 today. It's been dealer maintained since new based on the records she had when she bought it. The access cover in the plastic splash pan was missing both screws so they just twisted it sideways and stuffed it into place. I ordered the right bolts for it so I can make it right next time, but it's a little ridiculous that would be the dealer's solution. At that point they might as well have just pulled the whole thing and pretended it fell off on a road somewhere.

    I'm a fan of Radisson Canoes.http://www.bwmarineproducts.com/canoes.htm
Here's my 12'. It's not elegant, but its a workhorse.
The outriggers are aftermarket and detachable. Not the best paddle canoe. It has oar locks built into the gunnels and mounted on the paddles. Rows well. Yes, a canoe you can paddle or row. Also comes with a motor mount bracket. I use an electric motor. Nice for trout trolling.

I hit a deer for the first time yesterday.
I saw the large group of 8-10 deer start walking out from someones yard. I starting to slow from highway speed and hit my blinkers for the line of cars behind me. They immediately panicked and one-by-one bolted across the highway. i braked as fast as a felt comfortable without getting rear-ended. probably the fourth deer across stopped in front of my lane, turned jumped back to the shoulder, and then panicked and jumped back in front of me. At this point i was probably going 35 but hit her hip mid jump and flung her around 90 degrees and her head hit my drivers door. she rolled end over end a couples times somehow missing oncoming traffic. I looked back and to my surprise she got up and took off full speed up the hill. I ended up with a scuff on my hood and hair on the bumper. Gotta love metal bumpers.
