MA people - I'm doing my taxes and came across the line that always makes me wonder if the state suckers me into something no one else does.

It's line 34 on form 1. I always pay the safe harbor amount. Whenever I mention that to anyone, they look at me like I'm insane and say they always skip that line. This year I'm thinking about writing 0. I barely left the state in 2020 and I'm pretty sure everything I ordered online was taxed at the MA rate since it was mostly Amazon--if anything wasn't, there's no way I'm near the ~$50 "safe harbor" number in unpaid tax.

I LOVED going to Exoticar when I was a kid! I remember getting a little post card in the mail once a year (it was probably for that scratch and dent sale), and my father would bring my brother and I to get a model car. Ah, I miss those days...

I put $0. I pay enough tax, they can pound sand. Most of my online crap is taxed by now anyways.

Thank you guys! Big Foot you can still buy, I only got that a couple years ago, but the Ivan Stewart Toyota is from the 90's.

These are "OEM" Hot Wheels that I started collecting in the late 60's.

 

nice collection. You should post some of them in the Hot Wheels thread. Mostly 1/64 but a lot of bigger scale cars too.

 

I found Elizabeth Warren's tax returns when I was researching that line. She puts 0 and makes 600k/year. If she ignores it, I think I can ignore it.

I didn't realize short term capital gains were a higher rate than normal income, so they got that out of me this year from some stock sales.

 

I see the blues brothers cruiser in there, nice collection.

 

yup. Short term capital gains less than 1 year have some bracket that everyone pays, long term capital gains (stocks held over 1 year) are just counted as normal income so are just taxed as such.

very simplified explanation above and applied for stocks.

 

I used to have the Blues Mobile including the megaphone on top! But that is long gone now .

R2 actually works too! He is not automated, you control him with an app on your phone, but its fun to drive him around and make funny noises!

 

cool collection, mine’s mostly European and 90s supercars. Have gone through 3 moves without being unboxed though...

Yup, that sounds about right. When my father owned his store, he had the R2D2 cooler as well, but when my brother asked if he could bring it home, it didn't work out to well (we accidentally pushed R2 down the stairs, and broke it!).
