@skeletron that black on black looks great!

CB Update (if you aren't tired of it yet )

I got the ethernet passthrough on a switch blank from China. Great idea. Horrible execution. Got it in, was having some issues with the cat5/6 cable I used, so I wanted to pull it out and try a different one. Good lord - don't bother trying to remove it. I had to basically wrench on it to get it out, and when I did it broke it anyway. So back to just kinda tucking the unit up underneath. Went out to double check/tune it tonight, and SWR is off the charts way above 3 (same location I tuned it closer to 1.2-1.5). Given the cold - I bailed and came home, I'll try again Wednesday. It was either (a) something I did dicking around with the radio trying to get the pass through to work or (b) the rain got water somewhere it shouldn't have been??

....More and more I am wanting to ditch the entire hard wired setup and get a handheld with a mag mount external antenna and just run it through the door for the few times I would use CB. I want to get it tuned and set up for this trip, and this trip will decide if I just bail on it or not. Had some chatter this morning going over 295 of a few guys complaining about how much the lumpers get paid more than the drivers for owner-operators

I have google - I don't have a trailer, so I can get rerouted via google/waze and be fine with whatever that tells me, and I'm programming NOAA channels into my baofeng so - might just bail on the thing entirely if I don't get some good use out of it on this trip to LA.

Speaking of which - further updates. Cut down one of the boxes of PVC 1/2", it was kind of more so wedged in rather than fitting good. And cut down one leg I guess the tacoma floor isn't exactly level, so one leg got trimmed 1/2" on one corner of a box. Wednesday after work I am thinking I'll try to get the ply topper (tomorrow be cold). Probably going to get some automotive carpeting (they got rolls of it at Home Cheapo too, can get it by the foot! 6ft x cut length, I need about 6ft x 24in). Use these to tie the ply down to the PVC:
    https://www.homedepot.com/p/Oatey-1-in-Galvanized-2-Hole-Pipe-Hanger-Strap-4-Pack-33544/303434706

This trip I want to get it just built and secured, and once I get back and have some more time and warmth I can experiment with ways to make it modular so easy to remove/disassemble. Probably do it in a few sections. Nearly there, that PVC frame was the biggest hurdle, now it's smooth sailing (not to jinx it or anything).

okay folks, stupid question, if a very large tree branch falls on electrical and cable wires, and national grid comes and cuts up all of the wood, do you know whose responsibility it is to have all of the wood cleaned up? The reason why I am asking that question is because a very large tree in my neighbors yard diagonal for me had a tree branch fall on some wires and when they cut it up at 3 AM this morning, they dumped all of the debris on my front lawn. Am I responsible for cleaning this up? Is it the town's responsibility for cleaning this up, or the owner of the tree of the branch that fell?

just because i shopped recently for vacant land liability coverage, i was told if one of my trees fell on a neighboring structure, that structure's insurance would cover it

dunno how much that helps haha

If it's decent stuff, I'm sure someone would come take it off your hands to burn although that doesn't help with the brush and the small crap.

the big tree branches actually fell in the middle of the street but when the electric company came to cut up all of the trees, they put the debris on my front yard so it didn't technically fall into my yard it was put there by the electric company.

i would think if it fell on the town's property then it should be up to the town. like if there's utility damage in the middle of the street, it wouldn't be yours

    Morning all.
No power, huge wind gusts, and 1 degree at the house this AM. A good time to heat with wood, lol.

I'd go out on a limb and say it's the utilities responsibility to clean up then but I don't know all the legality behind it. I'm sure the emergency crews just get stuff cleaned up and leave it where ever it's convenient for them. I'd imagine the town or utility will come back with a chipper and finish the job. Might be worth giving them a call to confirm though.

okay, I think my first phone call should be to the town hall just to see if they will take responsibility for it. More than likely, they will pass the buck to the electric company which will then pass the buck to the town and I will most likely have to clean it up myself. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

MA may have different rules (because MA), but here in Maine they just leave it to rot. I've actually scavenged a fair amount of firewood over the years from windstorm cleanups, lol.

Just put it up for free firewood on CL. People will take it even if it’s pine.
