I do the pullout method. Pull the nozzle out while filling to make sure it looks clear.

I think they're only for people moving in from out of state and MA residents have the normal move your plates for 7 days rule.

I'm surprised - BJ's is usually a high volume station, you need to worry more about the dinky guys who don't get a lot of volume and it sits there for a while. I guess I don't really worry about that as much around here, everything is pretty high volume stuff around Seekonk area, and I use gasoline so :notsure:

Owner probably is crossing his and hitting the knees every night too. Replacing that HPFP isn't a cheap job.

I think the tanks were low, he said the pump took a long time. That makes me think he sucked up a ton of junk. Worst yet, he filled his 50 gallon aux tank with the same junk.
I told him the fuel system has to be cleaned out anyway, so we can start there and hope. He did have codes for low fuel pressure, so that isn't a good sign, though that can be caused by the clogged filters and lines. Time will tell!

And yeah, parts and labor, that job is around $9k or so. Cab off and everything.

I might pull the trigger, they’re getting better. The first DPKs required you to cut lines, which I really don’t want to do. There are now 2 of the, that are ‘plug and play’. I liked SPE’s but H&S’s new version looks even better. Even with the DPK though, I’m not convinced it really puts you in the clear. They divide the pump lube fuel from the truck’s fuel and put a filter on the return line. The return line filter is fairly fine but still allows particles to pass that are larger than the injector nozzles. Depending on the failure, you could still have to pull the entire fuel system, the pump is still going to grenade but you have a chance at saving the injectors but it’s not a guarantee.
Yeah, I do that. I do get my fuel from the same local place pretty much every fill up. Summers are a little dicey because we travel around with the camper and I try to hit truck stops. I’m using an additive also which will help a little if the contamination level is really low but it helps with lubricity regardless.

People complain about it, but I'm weirdly okay with excise tax. Hopefully it isn't too political, but I feel consumption based taxes are the most fair way to do things, at least for the average person. I save a lot of my income and hate how much I pay in those taxes (mostly federal, MA income really isn't that bad, and boy am I happy I don't pay into social security). My truck though, sure, hit me with excise on that--it's a luxury and if I didn't like the high excise I could avoid it by buying a slightly older vehicle. Sales tax too--I agree with how MA handles that--food and clothing, no tax, everyone needs those things. 75" 4k TV, yup, tax that!

I use Ford's additive, and I used to use the Power Service stuff as well.

I think having some form of defense is better than nothing at all. The CP4 is horrific and I'm amazed that they haven't had to recall them. They fail for practically no reason at all. GM has been struggling with the CP4 as well for YEARS and lost a class action lawsuit regarding the failures a few years back.

I remember a story from a few years ago about a GM customer who was literally 15 miles outside of warranty when his fuel system took down the whole truck, and they wanted $15k to repair it with no assistance whatsoever! I think Ford would at least step up and help.

I went to a Shell station and it was pumping very, very slow. Got half a gallon in and cut bait. Down the road to Stewart’s, filled up quick, extra dose of additive and a check of the water separator the next day!

F150 was $916 to get registered in Henniker.

That sounds like GM. My Sierra at 93k and the trans blowing up... they weren't willing to accept any responsibility. Yeah it's normal for a trans to fail under 100k these days. Apparently they did me a favor by quoting $5500 and I'd even get a 12 month warranty. Thanks azzholes!

Oof. That's rough. Yeah makes sense - sounds like he scraped the bottom.

Yeah I understand. RI is the same - tax per 1k in value, with a usually 2-5k exemption. Problem is it's based on your VIN NADA clean value, so my coworker had an old pontiac convertible, it was worth about 5k but it was a fun car. BUT NADA CLEAN value was like 60k. I'm in the same boat, you aren't going to avoid taxes so do it fairly. I'm the average joe I talked about earlier - two normal cars, normal house, normal jobs in a normal town. :notsure: I don't have a big house, or a pool, or many cars, etc that I need to try to choose the best place to go - not worth the effort to try to optimize.

I'm the same way with tolls - I think tolls are the best way - you use the road, you pay for the wear and tear based on your vehicle - towing a trailer means you have more tires and more weight, so you pay more, etc. I remember in Maine they wanted to raise the tolls for hybrids because of the battery weight, that was a shit storm.

    ...a year?!

My excise was $550 this year, will be $362 next year, reg is $100 for two years, inspection $35/year. So, basically $541/year while it's new.

Eventually, the excise drops to under $100/year for as long as I have the truck.

I think you should grab your boxes of tea, step on your sailing ship, and haul your happy tax-paying ass back to England where you can pay all the value-added taxes your heart desires until your teeth rot out of your head, in true English fashion.

Ironically, most of my ancestors are from a certain Mediterranean country that basically went bankrupt a couple years ago.

I think Power Service actually hurts the lubricity, making it worse than just plain ole pump fuel. I'm using Hot Shots Secret EDT for warm months and their anti-gel in the winter months. I considered Opti Lube also but not convinced it's any better. The way I see it, there are a lot of these trucks running lots of miles, getting the shit kicked out of them all day, every day, barely getting oil changes every 10k miles and they do fine. As long as I do what I can to help it along, I'm hoping I have good luck with it but, in the back of my mind, I know I'm one bad fuel stop away from a large repair bill... And I wouldn't expect or count on Ford to 'step up' any more than GM. I just keep my fuel filter change interval low, drain the water separator frequently, use the additive and try to make sure I get good fuel.

It's kinda crazy how frequently people get bad diesel.

I've heard the same on the PS stuff, and have been trying to find the hot shots in stores near me.

The Ford stuff is pretty great. People buy it by the case for their fleets here.

I think it has to do with it being relatively low-volume compared to gas. Sits longer in the tank because fewer people buy it.

The Pride station in town is notorious for having water in their diesel
