I think it has to do with it being relatively low-volume compared to gas. Sits longer in the tank because fewer people buy it.

Yep, every year it drops then after 5 years it's somewhat reasonable. Probably be $350-450 at that point.

I doubt in your area and certainly not in mine. There are fewer diesel pumps around and the ones that are around seem to get used heavily because of that. Lots of people that have Whistlin'Diesel as one of their favorites on YouTube up here in my neck of the woods.

What I want to know is how these 19 year olds are buying these trucks. The high school parking lot is half full of lifted diesels here in Central NH.

They're the reason that the used market is incredibly overinflated! That, or they kiss daddy hard enough on the lips so that he buys it for them, along with a pair of Oakleys, a case of Monster, and some Cockstar wheels.

There's a station that no one uses in Ossipee, but you get the vacationer coming up for the weekend who doesn't know better and pumps a tank full of water/algae/slime from them.

    Here's my breakdown:

    upload_2021-3-16_11-29-43.jpg

To check your valuation, you use clean retail (regardless of condition...........)

so 39,975$ - keep in mind, I paid 36.5 for this in Dec 2019....

For 2021, my town is 35$ per 1k in value, with an exemption. I can't find the current exemption under a quick google but it looks like it's $500 for me.

    upload_2021-3-16_11-36-0.jpg

So, just the Tacoma in my town, my yearly (yes every year) tax is 1381.60. And since the Tacoma holds its value, that doesn't really drop much over time.

    Here is a 2010 (V6 4x4 Tacoma):

    upload_2021-3-16_11-37-40.jpg

And, after the same math above, I would be paying about $600/year in MV taxes.

Worth noting, that it's based on the current NADA clean value....so my taxes actually went UP this year thanks to retail prices going up. Like I said, I paid 36.5 in Dec 19, now NADA tells me I would have to pay nearly 40k for it, used, with 30k miles, about 1.5 years later. Shenanigans.

Registration is 65$/year, inspection is about 50/every other year

    Subtle link: https://www.wpri.com/news/local-new...hen-they-appeal-vehicle-value-for-ri-car-tax/

    Flipside:
We bought a house in my town for 235 ish in 2017. At the same time, a same or very similar house right over the border 5 minutes away in Seekonk would be 2x that, and our property taxes are a bit lower thanks to the MV Tax - what I was saying above, if you own normal cars and houses, you're footing the bill one way or another.

....You're going to have to be more specific :boink:

When I was first writing service in Augusta there were 5 stations right downtown that sold diesel. Two of them were part of the same chain that went out of business, and another one was a mom & pop station and the owner retired. Once it was down to just two stations selling diesel we went from diesels being towed in with bad fuel pretty regularly to maybe 1 a year. That's the entire basis for my theory

I've heard the Ford stuff is good. There's 2 of them right? One for warm weather and one with anti-gel properties. Those should be fine for you to run year round, no need for the Power Service garbage.

I buy the Hot Shots stuff on Amazon. I like it because their 16 oz. containers have the metering thing built in to the bottle so it's really easy to just keep it in the map pocket and dose as needed.

That and diesel isn't as well regulated as gasoline. The gubment wants to regulate the ever living shit out of the diesel engines and how they run but god forbid they actually bother to come up with a usable standard for road fuel that would actually help keep the engine and fuel pumps in good running condition. Think about just the fuel filters in general. Most gasoline engines never replace them, diesels need them every 30k miles max and can be trashed in an instant if you get crappy fuel.

Yeah, and they're HUGE in comparison to a gasoline filter. Or you have to change them constantly; the one on my tractor is fairly small, so you have to change the stupid thing every 70 hours.

Wow, that's super high! MA excise values are almost always lower than the actual vehicle's value since they're a percent of MSRP (unless you're driving something worth under $2k). They have my truck under $25k this year and I could probably trade it for $40.

    ...and Greece.

EDIT: Just checked, my truck's clean retail is $51k! At that rate, I'd be looking at $1700ish/year!

Bahahahahahhaha. Yep, those are the valves.
The 6.7 has 2 of them. There's a big ass one near the fuel tank that's about the size of an Ipad but 2" thick, then another canister-looking one under the hood (and of course they couldn't make it a simple screw on, that'd be way too easy)

Right. Has to be a canister so you can pour a quart of fuel all over your engine compartment when you change it.

Yup. But my residential is 20.something per 1k, valuations went up a smidge last year or two. Seekonk (right next door) is 13.something, so let's say 13 and 20.

The house in EP was 235, the one in Seekonk was 375 or so, I think closer to 435 if I remember correctly (same footprint, and actually now that I think of it was in Rehoboth?).

    octave:7> 435*13
    ans = 5655
    octave:8> 235*20
    ans = 4700

So, my vehicle is more but the house is less every year.

Gets back into what I was talking about - average property, whether it's Seekonk, MA, East Providence, RI, etc you'll be about the same all things told.

edit: This is without homestead exemption

There are two options of the Ford additive, but we typically don't carry the winter stuff.

I had a large bottle of the PS stuff leak inside my tool box. I was not happy... I'd love something that seals well!
We usually recommend every 15k or so here. Especially because diesel isn't super readily available here. Plenty of junk to burn!
Oh. My. God!!!!!!!!!

50,000rpm make Jeep go boom! What did it think it was, a rotary?!
The one in the engine bay isn't AWFUL. It's self contained, but it has 3 quick disconnect connectors on it that can be a bitch to take off.

@Pugga you should do an EGR delete. This is a plugged EGR cooler we’re replacing right now.

I found a company’s website that sells all the illegal parts this morning. I was curious how they had balls big enough to stay in business openly advertising their products after the big EPA peepee slapping from last year, so I checked their about section. They’re now “located” in the Cayman Islands

I pulled my Mazda's at 75k and that thing was nasty. I'm doing the tacoma now probably putting it on the same cycle as the diff fluids. But I have to check - I think I remember the filter isn't easily accessible I think it's part of the pump in the tank in the tacomas. It was a pretty easy job for the mazda.

WOW. Jeep go boom! Brand new - what were they doing, bought it and then towing it out to the dunes or something!? Oof. What a way to put a bunch of miles on the tires without ever using it :notsure: that thing is toast.

Honestly I'm more impressed than anything.
