My second battery is an X2 that I bought from batteries+bulbs and I had originally planned to get a 24f X2 until I realized they had closed all their locations in Albany.

had a guy spinning out doing drugs in my driveway and threatening to beat me up for taking a photo of his car to report him. Turns out he's an even bigger piece of dog shit than I had originally thought.

After more research Napa’s legend line of batteries is also manufactured by East Penn. Looks like i’ll be going with a 24F Legend Premium.

This saw goes through the batteries much more quickly than the smaller 14” bar. But it can cut significantly larger trees without an issue.

been using it for about 2-3 weeks now any day it isn’t raining and I’m happy with the upgrade. 001587BA-F660-4A20-A3BC-1A31942AF333.jpg

ehhhh, not for serious work I'd sorta say no. I've been cleaning dead fall, dead trees and small scrub on about 10 of my acres for two years now with a little saw and a walk behind brush cutter. I can only burn part of the year so I don't do much in the summer and I'm not on any sort of timer, I do what I want, when I want.

For trail rides, residential level stuff etc... they are awesome. And I even like it a lot for what I do, but I can take a break when I want and go switch batteries. Ideally you'd have something like this (plenty of cheaper good options) and then a big boy for when the real big trees need to be dealt with.

edit: They are a dream for maintenance tho! A quick wipe down and chain sharpen and it starts 100% of the time everytime, with no crap to deal with. Can leave it for 5 years, pop a battery and it'd go 100% like the day you put it down. That's where it REALLY appeals to me.

I have had good luck with DieHards. Always ran then in my Subarus. I am not entirely sure if they are still the same since they were sold at Sears vs Advance Auto, but I put one in the girlfriend's Mazda last year and so far so good.

I wish my power cord one was low enough amperage to run off the truck inverter

That would probably be perfect for me. I have an old Stihl 026 that I like a lot, but I use it so little that a battery saw would be more practical.

I'd probably look at Makitas if I decided on it only because I have a bunch of their tools already, meaning a bunch of batteries and chargers.

What’s up with the tensioner side? Looks like a completely different mechanism.

The little inverters they put on trucks is ridiculous. Can you get a separate investor that will give you more juice?

yes, batteries are big money. I share these with my weed eater and leaf blower. So I use them 3/4 of the year almost daily. Just can’t for summer. They have kept me from looking at other lines of equipment tho that’s for sure.

you loosen the little part I have flipped out, then there is a black dial in the top right. That loosens or tightens and then you screw back the flip piece. It’s how you access all the bar/chain area as well.

as much as i love the smell and sound of a chain saw

honestly after putting in an hour or two with a battery saw and doing the equivalent with a two stroke saw, I was surprised at how much less taxed my body felt using the battery, just the noise smell and vibrations alone take a toll outside of the labor that is involved with cutting wood etc

for yard work they are really great, but so is having a big bad two stroke on hand

24 not a 27? The 27f was stock on Tacomas with the factory tow package and a good upgrade on those that didn't come with them

That is if your battery is still good/take a charge. I like the battery stuff and i know they've come a long way but I've been burned before by batteries dieing and not being able to get replacements

I have two, but I get what you're saying. These things aren't cheap either. I'm putting my trust in Stihl, not necessarily the battery itself. If one dies, that sucks, but I'm really hoping they would work with me if it were within a reasonable amount of time. Haven't had the issue yet, although :fingerscrossed: because theres been a few times where one beeps red at me for a little and won't start, and it isn't too hot. But they always come back if I let it do its thing for a minute or two.

What's the expected lifespan though? Am I going to need one at 3, 5 or 10 years? And at what point did I buy 10 gas chainsaws during my life...:spending:

Well, today is one of those days... Some good, some frustrating. Got my 3rd brake light tinted and both vehicles washed this morning, did some house stuff then figured, hey, I'll see if I can get the bike up and running. Put it on a charger, check the gas, start turning it over, cranking fine then nothing. Cylinder hydro locked because it filled with gas. Pulled the plug, tapped the started and about 350 CCs of gas came flying out. My dad has a compression tester I'll borrow next weekend so I can assess the damage. Best case, it's a carb rebuild and done, worst case it's a rod replacement. It was only cranking so I'm hoping no internal damage was done... Then, proceeded to get a diesel bath draining my water separator. Plug got stuck so I positioned myself to get better leverage on it, which I did, and it let go. Done with vehicles today!
