It will be great for camping like when you go to Asizcohos.. I want one for Richardson to cut dead standing or downed wood. All the sites there are on land leased by the timber companies, and if you were to start a gas chainsaw out there it's like triggering an alarm.

I always bring wood with me; I hate sitting in front of a smoky campfire, so I just wrap up a couple of bundles of seasoned wood from the shed before we leave the house.

I hate them too, but unfortunately I have a pyro friend that has to continually fuck with the fire and make it bigger. And the only way to do battle with him is to make sure it's HUGE and hot as hell, otherwise yes, it will be so damn smoky.

Well shit, I just realized, or at least I'm pretty sure, when I go camping with friends, that I'm the 'pyro friend' :anonymous:

Same. I don't need a huge fire, but it needs to be large enough for good heat & light, and a clean burn.

Anyone have one of those solo fireplaces that are supposed to be smoke free? We just ordered one from REI using my 20% member discount and member dividends. They seem to have decent reviews, and I wanted something shiny to use on the dock I'm building behind the house. Got the one with the stand and i'll probably just lay some pavers down below it as well to make sure I don't warp the decking.

Do you rake all the dead leaves in the entire vicinity and throw them on the fire? He claims it's in the name of cleaning up the campground, but it's really that he's a pyro. And the fire is so FREAKING smoky because of it! I actually have buddies that will no longer stay at a site with him because of it! We fish, so we wake up and have coffee, and this fuckstain cranks up the fire at 5:30am. I'm like "We are getting on the boat in 15 minutes!" but he doesn't care.

If being old and watching Dateline has taught me anything, it's that anyone having a random big ass fire in their yard is burning a body.

No, I don't put leaves in the fire because I do like a clean fire. I usually try to cook over it. But... I do start my fires with a healthy dose of white gas and I usually have to get a 6+' stick for marshmellow roasting. I guess I'm a responsible, or more refined pyro.

there's old burn piles in the lot we just bought. it looks like the previous owner just burned shit rather than arranging pickup. looks like doorknobs and cushion springs. but we also found animal bones. meanwhile he used to have a dog that he'd leave out in this yard. what a trashy mf'er

One of our neighbors at camp has one. It's a good 'ambiance' fire for during the summer, but by the end of September you want something that throws a little more heat. The Solos throw ok heat as long as you're right on top of them, but don't cook you out during hot weather. And no smoke.

That's more of what we're looking for. They open up the dam at the other end of the lake around Columbus Day to try to mitigate invasive weeds (milfoil). Gotta do it for the gram obviously.

Back in the day (which was a Wednesday) around 2010 or so I was a field engineer on the transmission project that runs through the RI spot. We got a call from the drillers one day that they had to stop cause they found a whole bunch of bag of bones while drilling for a foundation. Local/ state police came out and other various authorities. Obviously we went down to rubberneck and pretend to wield some authority. The spoils pile is just a mess of ripped plastic bags, bones, decomposed flesh and needles. Also smelled nice. Que Keith Morrison...

Turned out the structure location was next to a former greyhound racing dog owner. When the dogs were past their prime he'd just euthanize them (hence the needles) and dump them in a big pit he had dug on the right of way. Eventually he just covered it up and left it for some hapless driller to find. Also a classy individual.

I think the only thing was like illegal dumping or littering or something. No legit charges though.

Nothing seems to go smoothly - a plumber friend replaced my well pump this weekend. The old one had gotten loud and ran a really long time to build pressure back up. There was also a small leak in one of the fittings on the old pump.

The new pump is quieter but struggles just like the old pump. We backed the pressure down to 30/50 instead of 40/60 because it was running long enough from 50-60 where he was worried it'd shorten the life of the pump. He suspects an obstruction or some issue in the well or the pipe to the well causing it to struggle to pull enough water at higher pressures.

I called a well company and they said they've noticed lately that the new 1/2 HP pumps aren't as strong as the old ones (they started using 3/4s as a result) and my old one was probably stronger than the new one until the impeller wore. So, they have some sort of nozzle that usually helps the 1/2 HP pumps get more volume that they can try. They do not think it's an issue in the well or between the house and well, but they need to stop up to be sure. They're ordering one of the nozzles so they have it when they make the trip.

On paper, the new 1/2 HP has higher gallon per minute ratings than my old one so I neve even thought to jump to a 3/4. Had I anticipated this, the price difference was small so I would have done it. Don't know who is right, but I guess I'll find out.
