Hey anyone in here have a 5 gen 4 runner with the shark fin antenna and want to trade? Figure it’s worth a shot before I go buy one. Apparently it fits, loses AM (big whoop), and will clear the roof rack cross bars if I do that.

All in the name of probably putting kayaks up there.

Mine should be shipping any time now I think.

Edit: Nevermind, I have the crossbeam option in my order too, another ~30 days...

Not sure, but looks like an air hammer, punching out the old rivets? Any better than a generic air hammer, or did you not have one previously?

That's funny timing. I did exactly the same thing this weekend, Dongar adapter and all - the polarizing filter is supposed to show up today. I was around the $150 mark between the unit, adapter, and SD card.

People kept recommending enormous dash cams, but I just couldn't do it, I don't want a big thing with a screen hanging from my windshield. I can't even see the mini behind the rearview mirror, which is perfect.

So far I'm very happy with it. The quality is pretty good.

Okay. I've got one of them kicking around somewhere. I'll have to dig it up before my install.

Looking good. My set should be here in a week or so. I'm installing them with a new Dobinson medium weight leaf pack and shocks. I don't have a compressor (or a garage for that matter) so pneumatic tools are out. Was thinking of trying to use a ball joint press as suggested by some to remove rivets. Any advice for installation?

The ball joint press works great after you remove the rivet heads

Also this from Hammer hanger thread

I'd like to know why we need a physical shark fin at all. Can't they put that functionality into the existing roof or whatever? Don't we have the technology?

The ball Joint press came in Clutch!!!! It made the four bottom rivets (2 on each side) easy peasy. The thread below also has some info regarding putting in the Hammer Hangers with the Dobinson Leafs. A compressor with a "really good" air hammers helps a lot but it is not absolutely necessary. It will just take a little longer for the rivets to come out and just make sure you have a number of "hard Metal" drill bits both 1/4" and 1/2" on hand.

    ^ This......Great info here.

Ok, no problem. I have the heavy Dakars as well. I will be switching to Deavers in the next upcoming months but we "May" need to modify the ends of the Dakar leafs to make sure that they will not interfere with your shackles. Not a big deal at all.

Just a regular IR air hammer. Didnt have a tool in it for the pic though. Works well, used the chisel attachment the most I would say, pryed the factory hanger off the rivet nubs with it. And i think we might have gotten a couple of the rivets out with it

Anytime! It was great meeting you!
