    Forever modding!
How much modifying and what needs to be done? Assuming the shackle options wouldnt help with that, right?

Some of the Dakar leafs are longer and wider at the ends where they meet up and go into the shackle. Some are pointed inward and some aren't (it depends on the year the dakars were made and the exact version) Mine were ok but some aren't. Some people just have to grind down the ends of the second leaf so they do not rub and grind against the inside of the shackle. It is not a hard thing to do if they do need to be modified. PM me a picture of the ends of your leafs where it attaches to your shackle and we can start deducing if they need to be modified or not. :)

apparently the 4Runner AM antenna is integrated into a window. Which is why the shark fin is smaller, and will allow me to run the roof rack over it.

but to answer the question who knows. At this point most likely because they bought a ton and need to use them up. For all the cost cutting they do you’d think they’d be able to reduce costs to buyers

My thoughts? Seeing that people smash their sharkfins when cleaning snow off or on garage tops etc... means more income from people needing to fix it.

The only thing that steered me away from the Mini 2 was a review showing that it beeps every time it turns on and every time it detects a collision (which the reviewer can just be from a large bump). Otherwise, the image quality seemed to be exactly the same.

I saw that in the review too. I agree with the guy that I don't need a screen on the camera as I'll access everything through the phone. So if I go with a model with a built in screen, hopefully I can turn it off.

I don’t have that one but I can turn all that shit off. I don’t even know if mine makes a beep or sound in start up now. Either I’ve completely toned it out or turned it off. ALSO the speakers are usually an afterthought since nobody really uses the dash cam itself to watch videos on so they’re timid at best.

Forgot to add some pictures. Finally had an idea to use panoramic mode to get my sleeping platform all in one picture. And added up some patches. Finally got my Joshua tree one and put it up and just put up the Newport folk fest patch too.

For a dash cam, I run a Viofo A129 Duo Pro. Very good picture quality and WiFi access for pulling clips is easy.

I have been running a Roav Dash cam for about 3-4 years on the truck and another in my daily. They work great but make sure you buy a decent memory card for them otherwise it crashes. It runs off wifi and my newer unit for the daily has GPS built in as well so I can pick where along my route I want to pull footage from.

Check your SD cards about 1/year, usually replace them on that cycle anyway.

They go bad? I have had the same one in my truck for ~2-3 years now, the first one died after 8-10 months...

Over time yeah. I have only had one go bad in each camera, about 3-4 years probably on them before they crapped out.

Hey people who know more than me - the laws talk about 4 feet beyond the rear of the vehicle for a tow flag.

Does that include the tailgate length or not? My kayak is 9.5 feet, I have a 5 ft bed and Maine and NH are both >4 feet need a flag. I have 4.5 feet beyond the bed, but 3.5 feet beyond the tailgate (or there abouts, might be closer to 3 feet).

I can't find MA, but NH, VT and Maine are >4 feet needs a flag, lights at night in Maine. RI is anything under 6 feet is fair game, no lights/flags needed o_O

So - I'm just curious, if I can get away with the kayak in the bed as 3.5' or not. Especially Maine. Flags are easy, I have those (I think, if not, easy to figure out). Lights are a pain for a dinky little kayak. Just curious how much effort I should put into it while I try to sort out the roof rack situation (if I want to do a roof rack).

To be honest - I haven't seen anyone use lights for anything hanging out of their bed before... Most just flag it, especially if it's just a kayak you and I have seen some sketchy hauls with everyone getting into kayaking/paddleboarding this year.

I've never seen anyone use marker lights. Just throw a flag on it. Or better yet just use the tail from the ratchet strap used to secure the kayak, trail it to the end of the kayak and use that.

I just use a flag for my kayak. People definitely do some sketchy shit without even a flag (6’ of lumber sticking out the backseat window of a civic sketchy). Never seen lights for a canoe, kayak, ladder, etc
