Anybody ever do Saf-T-Caps before? I have a local guy but his schedule sucks, definitely willing to pay and help with a pair of hands. Gonna do body bushings at the same time since it's gotta come apart anyway to get the top bead on the caps.

In my defense, one of the older guys just left the company and I'm probably going to end up with his van for my daily needs...
And I'm not even seriously considering them til the brand new set is done, but if I can slowly chip away at things before then...

I did my passengerside with these - worked good I did a ton of prep work and did not remove the cab from the frame. My buddy welded them with a mig setup. I did have to cut sections out of it depending on what I needed and where my sliders sit. Remember prep is everything. I cleaned then sealed the inside of the frame after cutting out the rot with Internal Frame coating from Eastwood, also sprayed the inside of the saf-t-cap part (left a 1/4" barrier for welding) and then had it welded up. Took more eastwood to the inside of everything to give it a nice thick coating and sprayed the outside with 2-3 coats. I just ordered more to do the otherside. I'll be doing a cab mount relocation soon so that'll be interesting since it'll be welded to the saf-t-cap portion of metal and not the actual frame.....

Yep. I took everything down to bare metal, zinc etched, degreased, and POR-15'd - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...en-tacoma-today.6499/page-11296#post-26383598

Plan is to POR-15 the insides of the caps before welding, then finish treating the inside of the boxed section and POR the outsides of the caps before woolwaxing. I'm having the cab mounts plated as well, so I'll probably cut off the "tab" on the Saf-T-Cap and just re-drill as necessary for the sliders I have on order.

I had to redrill for my aft skid (transmission skid I think) which was fine as I needed to clean up those holes anyways.

So it appears I have bent something on the passengerside front suspension. I put the newer design JBA High Caster uca's in and went in for an alignment. The camber adjustment is maxed out at -2.6 degrees and I can't bring it back in anymore. In addition with the camburg tubular control arms I didn't have much rub with the same tire setup, with the JBA's I have a ton of rub full lock to the passengerside in reverse. Either the JBA uca is manufactured wrong or something is fubared on the spindle/lca... (I also have gusseted spindles)

I need to find my last alignment sheet to compare...

Hah! I didn't know you were in for alignment today too on facebook. :D

Yeah yours is worse than mine was. Mine was bad enough to take out a tire and was getting to a second one too.

Is the garage heated? You’ll want to keep the soft goods nice and warm. Makes the job much easier.

Yes, and I`ll keep the covers inside in the heat until they`re ready to go on.

If there's space that allows for it, you might want to just pull the seat from the truck and bring it inside to install the leather, then reinstall the seats in the truck afterward.

The seats definitely have to come out of the truck, there's no way to install them otherwise. If I was doing it at home, that was going to be the plan, take the seats out and bring them inside. My parents have a really large garage that's insulated and it's got a heater that will sweat you out of the place. It'll be just like installing indoors except I don't have to worry about ruining anything moving the seats around. I'm also planning on having a hair dryer available for some added workability for the tighter corners.
