Any of you have garage heat recommendations? I have a two-car garage that’s insulated everywhere except the garage door itself.

What ever I get needs to be ceiling/wall mountable (because I don’t have an inch of space on the floor), and I think I’m leaning electric for convenience purposes … though I can only use 110.

Anyone else do something similar and have recommendations?

I run a 30k btu “blue flame” type propane unit in my 2 car. Works very well and I run it off a 20lb tank that seems to last forever.

I think the 30k btu is perfect for a 2 car garage. My dad uses a 30k btu redi heat diesel / kerosene heater and it’s great. Almost gets too warm at times.

Some organizations may ignore it, a lot will not adopt to MA because of dumb regulations:

    Massachusetts requires that all dogs entering the state must be quarantined for a minimum 48 hours per Animal Health Emergency Order, 1-AHO-05. This is required of all dogs entering the state, regardless of their health, age, vetting status, etc;

Easy - Cragslist in TN for dogs and just bring it without anyone knowing

Honestly - my next Catahoula might end up that way. There's so many down in TN LA GA AL area. Great breed, great temperament. I would get another female Catahoula in a heartbeat. Just getting one up here is a shot in the dark. Down there, all over the place. I would hit a road trip. Especially if I'm in Austin by that point.

I haven't looked recently but a lot are "catahoula" which are just pits with some merl patterning and nobody wants pits so they put them as "catahoula" instead. I have nothing against pits but after having a catahoula by incident, I'm attached.

I have a 6000 watt electric heater that would be decent if I insulated my ceiling. (this one: https://smile.amazon.com/Heater-DR9...targid=pla-274312944125&sa-no-redirect=1&th=1 )

Right now a lot of the heat goes up there so it really struggles below 30 degrees outside and is basically useless below 20. It's on a 240v circuit. My garage is 24x24 and the doors are insulated but nothing else is.

I don't think you'd get anything at all usable on 110.

I have a fully insulated 2 car garage and insulated door, easily reaches 60* in the garage after a couple hours with a 1500w space heater, in the winter we usually deal with 15 to 30 degree temps though so maybe not as bad as you guys get. We only rarely reach negatives.

I have the same brand, I forget how many watts, in my garage that's now a gym. It's all insulated except the front wall which is just concrete. The garage is only a bay and a half, and not full depth. You could squeeze an Outback I there and that's about the largest.

That heater works great for our gym. Heats up the space in maybe 10 minutes if it's really cold out.

My buddy who also turned his garage into a gym has the same unit as me. He's got a full-size 2 bay garage that's deep enough for a full size pickup and workbench. His garage is also fully insulated, but takes closer to 30 minutes to heat up. He probably could have gone up a size, but it still does its job.

My garage sounds similar in size - I can fit my F-150, girlfriend's CX-5, and the work benches and tool chests. Mine takes more like two hours to get reasonably comfortable but it's mostly uninsulated. I got a bunch of basketball court 2" thick foam panels from my girlfriend's uncle that I'm going to use to close up the ceiling, which should help a lot. I expect the stuff has a similar R value to pink insulation board and it was free and not as ugly.

He got a new insulated garage door last fall (he previously had a wood door), and that helped him in addition to covering his outer concrete wall with some of that silver reflective insulation panels. Last winter he had the same issue, it was over an hour to heat up.

Went with a propane heater in the barn, probably the best thing I have added to it along with a plastic barrier over the insulation in about 60% of the barn walls to keep drafts out. I keep it at 45 degrees and it jumps to 65 in about 30-45 minutes.

I need to figure something out for the unfinished basement of my house, it's about 45-50 down there in the colder parts of the winter and it's all insulated minus the exposed concrete floor/walls.
