Rough day at work yesterday - Raytheon Corporate pushed down a 25% operations workforce layoff which basically fucked us all. Lost two guys on my team and we also lost one of the two machinists we have in house right before a big product release. Not sure how we are going to keep going being man down in the machine shop... Worse part is the machinist we have left only knows the language for one of the two machines - we have some really dumb fucks running this division...

I haven't learned every company we do business with but I would not be surprised if we supply some electrical packaging to you guys :). Family friend of ours I believe was layed off from there years ago. He had been there forever. Not sure what he does now.

    Rough...

It's mind boggling that the first reaction is always to cut out the resources who actually make the products, rather than even consider cutting executive compensation. This culture of Shareholders > Workers is going to sink us, it's so short sighted and unsustainable.

No comment - I don't want to get banned

I will say one issue is sort of a cold war scenario for executive compensation. If Ford decides to cut their exec pay 50%, then all GM has to do is cut theirs only 25% and they'll steal the successful exec from Ford, leaving Ford with a less successful exec in that position and see profits go down.

It's one of those damned if you do, and if you don't situations.

Also, check this out. This is from '18 but still relevant, probably changed a bit but probably still a ton of connections.

    https://www.fastcompany.com/90209537/the-web-of-board-members-that-link-american-corporations-mapped

Long of the short, those in charge of one company are likely also in charge of other companies and all connected.

A friend recently left there for a competitor because they gave him a bunch of management responsibilities but wouldn't entertain a discussion about increasing his salary. I wonder if it's all related.

We are losing folks left and right - not surprising. A lot of the younger guys are jumping ship esp after this shit show. One of the programs was in the red and the machine shop was bailing them out now they're fucked

Or something like in 2020 "hey sorry guys we can't give raises this year, and we are not going to put money in your pension funds any longer (separate from 401K)"

In 2021 "hey let us tell you about the tens of millions we gave to charity last year. Go us!"

Or they look at the longtimers as expendable from a money position, which is true they can hire a new person cheaper. They can't replace knowledge and experience as easily though.

    Jumping in off-topic,
Anyone know of any decent paint shops in southern NE, and/or shops that give the option of spraying raptorline or monstaliner? Full exterior. My paint is f****d and I am exploring alternatives to a respray or vinyl wrap... Feel free to point me to another thread, I have searched a bit but figured asking here would be helpful. I wouldn't have access for DIY in a garage until November, and I don't really want to wait that long. Thanks for any help!

A lot of the old timers here retire out and keep trying to tell management they're retiring and want to train up someone new and share the knowledge... nope there is no funds allocated to training someone new so the knowledge gets lost.

Plug for a friend, he may not be the cheapest you'll find, but he's one hell of a paint artist. I don't know if he regularly does *liner sprays, but he might work with you on a one-off.

but I thought every one was hiring during this labor shortage. Looks like another round of, please pick up the slack and do more, with a big fat nothing extra for the extra effort.

Not to toot my own horn, but I Raptor lined my ex's FJ Cruiser in my garage and it came out great. I'd be down to make some side cash if you could live without the truck for a week or two.

Man that is quite the offer, I would potentially be interested! I'm just looking around weighing options at the moment.. Truthfully I am also considering selling it, which would be arguably be harder to do if I committed to raptor lining the whole exterior. Lots to think about but I will let you know!
