I believe that his truck will be turned into the dealership either today or tomorrow. It is as OEM as we could make it. I was able to take out his "Husky" Floor mats and those will be up for sale in the thread.

44 is wild. I've been on it from just west of Philly and I think I'd like to come back and do a week roadtrip just through this corridor.

Big Cabin, OK tonight. There's a 50 foot tall Indian staring in the window.

What sort of silicone product are we talking here? Geocel 2300 clear tripolymer is quite good. They make great products anyway

44? That goes through corn fields andore nothing  ..... I'm in.

R41 looks like a cool trip. Starts (or ends) in copper harbor up on lake superior and ends down in Miami.

I haven't been planning as many of my stupid long road trips lately. This year I'm looking at mostly weekends and day trips. And NMW in the fall.

Where going? There's a bitchin Mexican place in Enid with the best horchata. That route out to Enid is a lot of corn but pretty cool. Then you get to see some cool flying out there - air force pilots train at that base.

I'm headed to AZ for a week-ish. Been itching bad to get the Hell out of Dodge for a while. I haven't been to the desert (for fun) since I was a kid. This is technically a class trip but it should be fun. The rest of the class is flying out, but I don't fuck with airplanes anymore.

Been working the bugs out of my nav setup - software and ant placement were a little not great, I'm happy with it now. I also finally discovered where almost all of the wind-in-the-ear noise is coming from and fixed it super easy - I'll write it up when I get home and do the passenger side but it's the holes in the A pillar for the mirror studs, behind the plastic triangle trim piece. I cut a little slit in some noise foam for the mirror plug to pass through and covered them.

    IMG_20220329_194240.jpg

There's indeed plenty of corn on the east section but there are a TON of tourist traps - bigass caves and outlet malls and gigantic truckstops and weird candy stores. I could do a week out here easy.

Yeah! AZ is cool. I don't know your routes but if you can - hit white sands and petrified forest/painted desert while you're out there. And of course the south rim.

Last year we hit the south rim on the way out on my cannonball run and you know those stories of "oh I went it was all fog" or whatever? Sunny. 75. Visibility: unlimited.

I will absolutely be back but first need to move down closer first. From here it was pretty much 3 days straight just to get to the NM border.

I will be updating the patch thread when the batch is in stock but they have been sent for pre-production, samples are being made before the bulk of them are made and then when we get them in hand, we will be inspecting them before we put them up onto the website for sale. With supply change issues and getting the bulk of them shipped to us might take upwards of 2 - 3 weeks. Believe me, I am eager as well.

I am envious of your cross country road trips. I get a lot of vacation time, but there's no way I could use enough at once to make trips like that possible.

The first one to Texas was not a choice. That was 2 weeks back to back forced unpaid leave of absense due to the ‘rona. I COULDN’T work. It was fantastic. Wife was in school so I figured I would take a day or two trip up to Maine. I had two weeks so I decided “Balls it, I am going to Niagara falls for a day trip”….”How far is Nashville from there….make it an extra day….” and then is blossomed into Texas. We had a trip planned in August actually to Austin, as a way to scope out living there in the summer heat instead of just over holiday break where it was liveable. So, I basically thought sod it, away I go. And then added Michigan because…..I don’t actually remember.

Then 2021 I did the cannonball run, I had a ton of weekend comp time to burn, we were all coming in and then just hiding in offices taking calls all day. I basically just did that but on the road. That was a shenanigans trip - it started as a trip to the big texan ranch, the thread that everyone was watching everyone eat steaks on this forum actually. I thought “What if I was the idiot that came from RI, I can take 2 vacation days and make it happen. Good break from the cold in March.”

I always wanted to do a cannonball run, and it’s easier when you’re this close to NYC rather than if we moved to Texas. So, I added like 3-4 days to do that. My boss, unbeknownst to me at the time, was already on his way out the door so had NO problem approving the vacation request

Then Michigan in Oct 2021 was a joke. AOAA one weekend, Kentucky the next, I COULD have come home and doubled back but it was mostly “AOAA is already 6 hours in that direction…..” and I also, always wanted to check out UP in the fall. I NAILED the timing on accident. But, yeah, same thing just another 2 days PTO instead and made Michigan happen.

I have knocked off all the “big” want to do road trips. I still have one idea - a “Red White and Blue” road trip. Red mountains UT, Blue ridge parkway, and then end by summiting Mt. Washington in the White mountains. But that’s TBD. I am also looking at hitting the arctic circle next August.

But I also just started a new job, no longer have forced unpaid leaves (I had a total of 6 weeks leave in 2020 because of the ‘rona). I have 4 weeks PTO, but at least through 2023 it looks unlikely to make any big trips, the arctic circle trip is a 50/50, if we move to the south, that’s when we would be moving so it would be an overlap sort of thing. Go north, then go to the new place/job instead of returning back to RI.

It’s been a cool round of trips, but at least the cannonball run was WAY too much driving in way too short of a time. The Texas trip was great, Michigan was great, but yeah LA and back in like 11 days was a LOT of AIS time.

    That trip sounds great.

And the Cannonball sounds like my usual road trip to Texas and back. All drive...

I keep telling myself... one day I'll get to do a road trip where I want, when I want, how I want...

    Not likely though....lol
