True though those costs are what any vehicle costs to use. Basically you got the use of it for a few years less operating expenses and minimal depreciation

Yes but it’s not like those expenses go away if you have a different vehicle, which is why I find them somewhat exclusionary imo

They're not just paying the depreciation, they're also paying the interest on eternal car payments, and also higher insurance costs. Those car payments also tend to get bigger over time due to the rising cost of new vehicles, which we have seen in recent years has been outstripping other cost of living increases. As a single data point for comparison, I recently figured a rough but accurate TCO (which does not include gas) for my 2009 is something like $350/mo since paying it off years ago and that INCLUDES the mods/upgrades, insurance, paperwork, and so forth.

    Thanks Rob!

    Thanks John!

Unfortunately none of the supporting mods are done like cab mount relocate and firewall tubbing so it rubs pretty good with some up travel and turning. Also with the head gasket leaking into the cylinders I don't want to chance ruining a good day bringing that out in the woods. If I can get the rear window to work on the 4runner I may try to bring that and take all the go arounds.

My insurance went down with my turd gen because of the nanny shenanigans.

Also in RI for trucks, your trade in isn't deducted for taxes. You pay 7% (i think) on the price. Period. Cars have it but trucks (anything with a bed) doesn't. Maverick and other unibody crucks included.

Everything I've heard about RI leads me to believe it is a strange place.

true, I was fortunate enough to pay off my truck quickly so I forget about things like change of interest rates (tripled since I bought)

Anyone do the dunes at race point? Any pointers?

i want to go second week of June. According to the website if 400 passes aren’t out, it seems like just show up with all the necessary items they list and watch an orientation type video?

They never sell out of passes anymore. Keep an eye on the map to make sure the beach is open. It is closed most of the summer due to birds nesting. Closures will probably already be starting mid June. There isn’t even much open right now.

Something I’ve always wanted to do is rent the building next to the lighthouse. It’s available to rent weekly in the summer or for shorter stays in the fall. It would be awesome to be living way out there on the beach.

My 2011 was the most reliable vehicle I've owned, but even it had a few issues - like the awful leaf springs that usually creaked like I was driving a 1950s farm truck but couldn't support 500 lbs without hitting the bump stops over every dip in the road. Or the brakes that inspired absolutely no confidence, but were apparently normal. The Ford definitely has lower build quality and more issues. Fortunately, it's been better than the stories friends have told of GMs with collapsed lifters and blown oil cooler lines or Rams with electrical issues leaving them on the side of the road.

The 4th gen is looking like something I'd actually buy again in a DCLB Limited config. AWD transfer case, brake controller and other features previously only on the Tundra, power that's better than a lot of full size trucks, and a supposedly improved seating position.
