I keep thinking about picking up a second vehicle to keep miles off the F-150. My dream Volvo appeared (dream Volvo - what am I, a 60 year old college professor?). XC60 T6 R-Design with the factory Polestar tune and the Bowers & Wilkins system.

I told myself no, don't go look at it, it's not quite the right time financially - check again later in the summer. But, they just dropped the price $2k, Volvo sent me a $500 educator code, and I probably have a tiny bit of leverage based on how they advertised it versus what I see in pictures. So tempting!

I'll only say that it's only the last few times I've been there that I've had concerns about things like this. That said, I understand that right now service and parts are keeping the lights on, so I understand that there is pressure on writers to suggest things that owners might not have thought about. I've had exactly two issues in all the years I've been going there and both were resolved in minutes.

I haven't watched a basketball game since...when did the Celtics lose to the Lakers in the finals?

I happened to be online and turned it on to watch the Butler free throws. That's pretty solid timing, I think.

I was playing around with the V60 configurator last year, I get it. There's many reasons not to buy a car...but you've yet to give us a compelling one.

I loved the old abused xc70 that I had for a little while and have wanted a nicer Volvo since.

I have decided if nobody has beaten me to it, toward the end of the week I will go take it for a drive. I don't have a ton of time until then and it's far from a necessity, so if I still want it by then and it's still there it's probably not too crazy to just do it.

All I can say is yes the Volvos are nice but they aren't the same quality as the old ones. My in laws have had a few, including currently owning a 2017 S90 I think inscription package, whatever the highest trim is called

I've only been looking at CPO, since that'll give me a year-ish (for a 2019) or two (for a 2020) bumper to bumper unlimited mile warranty on it. I've heard that they're generally reliable - the major stuff doesn't tend to have big issues, but every single part is big money so even if little stuff happens it adds up. Volvo lets you extend that so I could have 6-7 years unlimited miles and I found a dealer selling those plans online for not awful money. That would make a vehicle like this less of a concern, too.

Individual speakers for these things list for $400, for example. Wiper blades are heated and like $75 each. But, fortunately it seems you shouldn't typically need to replace the entire thing and Volvo sells relatively inexpensive refills for them. Ford parts are cheap. I blew one of the speakers in my truck and it was like $45. That's the B&O system too. The standard was even cheaper.

I don't really have any vices, so if my dumbest vehicle purchase ends up being a Volvo - I think I could make worse decisions in that department.

I say get the Volvo. It’ll add some variety, a little change of pace from all the Fords around here.

My fiancee and I are considering splitting the cost. I'd use it as a work commuter (I drive 50+ miles a day), and she can take it on her many trips to see her family and friends who live between 1.5 and 5.5 hours away. Since I'd be driving it more overall, I'd take care of all the maintenance costs. Keeps miles off both of our vehicles.

That’s how I’ve justified my WRX search. You’re allowed one really dumb move in your life, I think and that’s going to be mine.

Happened to be flipping channels after the Sox and caught the last 6 minutes of clock time. WOW.

I never have watched basketball. Been to one game. But that game really got me into it

Eh, can you just call it a midlife crisis thing?

I wanted a hot rod for my midlife crisis, funds dictated otherwise so I have a few bikes.

Dropping and stacking trees just over yonder to clear a building site and take out anything that might fall on the shack once it's up.

Been cutting a trail clear enough to drag up concrete and lumber. Gonna be a hard summer. Surely will be worth it.
