Probably says more about the visitor than the homeowner. And it shows their ignorance regarding what it takes to fire one of those guns. They were in more danger on their drive home than they will ever be standing in the same room as that gun. Even if all the necessary ingredients were on hand to actually fire it and their life depended on it they probably would not be able to fire it.

I shoot Flintlocks. You have to know a few things in order to light one off.

 

I'll find the video later (no I won't, I will absolutely forget) but it was a bit on QI, they put professional pilots into a simulator for another plane. IE they were 777 pilots dropped into an A380 cabin sim. They were told "land this plane". One turned the autopilot off and immediately crashed. One couldn't get into the cockpit because they couldn't operate the seat.

That's immediately what I thought of. Heck even in my own experience, I rode and maintained BMX bikes for 10ish years. I could rip down an entire casette and have it reassembled in a couple minutes. I got my first road bike, and hadn't the foggiest on what kind of headsets the used, what the BB sizes are, how to adjust the driveline, how often to inflate the tires, etc etc.

If you put me in a room with all the ingredients and told me I can't leave until I fired that weapon, chances are it'd be my tomb.

 

I would have to count myself amongst the crowd of people who would have no idea how to fire one successfully.

The visitors just showed their complete lack of understanding how they operate and showed a complete lack of class and tack in how they chose to handle the situation. Hopefully your buddy just gave them the GTFO, although the BFF side of that equation may end up getting sticky...

^yep, and quite a few more things to do so accurately.

 

Shooting technique has to be learned as well.
You literally have a fire/flash a couple inches in front of your face and you can feel the heat.
Flinching is a common problem.
Follow through and holding the target is important as well.
That said they're pretty cool and fun to shoot.

I have less than zero interest in guns (hence why I tend to disappear the week each month this turns into the NE gun thread) and even I wouldn't find that to be anything other than a decoration assuming it's unloaded, properly supported on the wall, etc. etc.
