If wasn't such a stickler about weight or had somewhere to stick that? Mighty tempting...

I do mine myself, we have similar height bars. Mine also magically balances on this creeper.

    This came down solo.

    upload_2023-10-19_14-32-16.png

    Notes:
    • A second person does make this 100x easier, but it is totally doable solo
    • Get a longer dolly
    • Put something on the trailgate to slide on, either as a corner brace or a plank
    • Moving it around on the dolly is super easy, but it is a bit unsteady. I would feel comfortable standing to either side of it and moving it, but for storage, I would tie it off to a wall somehow.
I dropped this down and pushed it into my garage solo, it was proof of concept for if it makes sense to keep it or not. I can do the platform in and out solo easily, so if the rooftop tent is also easy solo...it's a lot more space.

Here's some other pictures I found:

    upload_2023-10-19_14-33-23.jpg

It looks like this guy kinda "tumbles" it (I'm assuming doesn't drop it)

    upload_2023-10-19_14-33-58.jpg

The whole shebang WITH the rack, this is what I would do if I had the height/could fit in the garage.
    upload_2023-10-19_14-36-4.jpg

edit to add another note - if the ladder comes off the back (I am thinking of trying that out next year), then the straps would go tight and be parallel to the ladder. ALSO, I used cam straps, NOT ratchet straps. 100% recommend NOT using ratchet straps for the same idea as you don't on a kayak - don't want to crunch the thing.

Only ONE smack? Haha yeah of all places you don't want a rot hole on a panel, a fender or door you can Bondo it up quick and/or replace the panel.

Cherry body even, 515K still makes me dizzy

"Who cares what it costs, how much are the payments"..

My sister and I were house hunting around the same time 20 years ago. Neither of us were great with money as kids but I've gotten better, she's worse. My dad drilled into our heads don't look at the amount they'll give you, look at what you can pay every month plus do repairs you know about plus repairs you don't know about plus live. I followed that and she didn't. One of us got a foreclosure a few years ago, guess who?

Exactly, suck it up and drive something you might not love for a while especially if you aren't able to pay for it now. You'd laugh if you saw some of the heaps I drove through my teens and 20s.

True in your case you want a different thing (miles) and that can be tougher in some ways to find nowadays as well.

Unless you could eat off the body/frame/interior that's nuts, even at that it's still nuts unless you have a spare drivetrain and the ability to hump it in yourself when it happens.

I usually look at the total cost. I feel like payments are how dealerships/salesmen get people into longer than they should be loans and the total cost skyrockets. But I get how you need to be able to even afford the payment at all to even start a conversation.

I'm trying to now just avoid having debts entirely

Yeah, I love the space of the RTT, but I don't love that I need to be (more) level (than my cab setup), and that if it rains, I need to dry it out. I don't HATE the setup time, it takes about the same amount of time as a ground tent if not significantly less, and I'm off the ground.

it would give me my cab back though (namely, for a fridge  )

    lmao that pic is great.

I recently got a gazelle t4 for just over $200 thanks to sportsman's warehouse sale + discount code.

They seem to give that $20 off x or whatever codes they're always running on anything. Like I never have to deal with fine print lmao.

Maybe my BIL fiddles with his a bit but it takes a while for his SB v2

I meant weight on the truck, coupled with the fact that it's up high is a big no no for me. I try to keep the weight of/on the truck down as low as I can to attempt to mitigate everything else I've done lmao, plus I definitely would have rolled several times this weekend if I had an rtt strapped to the bed.
