Moving 2,100 miles was a two month ordeal for us. Finally settled in Texas, but still have unpacking to do. Plus registering vehicles, buying furniture, getting DLs.

I've always had good luck with inspections, most places I've been pop the scanner in your obd and as long as there isn't a CEL they take your 30 bucks and send you on your way

    Some stuff
As someone that has done the cross country thing a few times... can absolutely confirm.

Tiff(my Tiff clearly) and I have played it several different ways.. movers, and I move my tools, bikes and safe.
Sell furniture, and I move my tools, bikes, safe, and get new stuff when we get there.
    And we just move everything.
    They all suck.
Next time back to Texas, I'll likely end up shipping 1 or 2 of the bikes, and sell a bunch of stuff.

    I hate moving.

    Oh well, off to work......

I drove to Amarillo to watch @bvbull200 eat a steak. We could have thrown together a couple idiots to grab some family heirlooms and go 90 down the pike Beverly Hillbillies style in exchange for a beer.

Glad you're there at least. Hope it was just some U-Haul shenanigans and that's it.

Our last move was pretty slick. We didn't keep some furniture, it was a JOB to get it up the spiral staircase to the apartment but it came out via window and sawzall. We were only going a few miles so we just got the econo van and did a couple trips. My wife is an angel, at the time she was only doing yoga instruction so she spent days unpacking while i was doing 8-6 and didn't have as much time to unpack.

If and when we move again it's going to be shenanigans for sure. I can already tell.

Shenanigans man. Raptor Rs with 100k markup normal, etc. The high runner cars aren't as bad and are getting better but the special cars like that are insane. The insanity exists because people are buying it. They're using these "lower tier" cars like status symbols. Look at Porsche cayennes. New they're 100k. Used, decent shape, not insane miles etc - 10k. It's all about paying $$$$ for the status symbol. Now we're just seeing it done with raptors and chargers

It’s just like MA in that it all depends on the shop, who you know. I never had any issues in NY. VA was the worst place i experienced for inspections. But I was new there and I got a shop that had an absolute prick doing the inspections.

True. One guy I follow on YouTube owns a shop in NY, I think by Albany. He has a vid and it's suppose to be more in depth than MA but he was saying some shops are open past when the state is for inspections. Calls them the "lick em and stick em" shops lol. I know there's ways around the cameras in MA but it is definitely not as easy

I hope it hasn't changed in recent years but yeah, as long as the emissions clear and your car isn't visibly ready to fall apart then you're good. Fingers crossed lol
Other than that nonsense it was pretty smooth actually, finished way ahead of the time we budgeted and the return process for uhaul was show up and drop off the keys so that was nice. Audrey was doing the wfh thing so she had lots of time to start packing things up and so far it all seems to have made it in one piece. Next time we might just dump the furniture and get new stuff for the place since we've moved a couple times with our current setup and it shows lol

If the place is busy enough there's definitely no incentive to keep you around for an inspection, just holding up a bay at that point

Fair. They're suppose to take a wheel off for the inspection from my understanding. How many follow that rule, I'm not sure

That’s a common one, they always pulled a wheel to check the brakes.

TX has an interesting process. First, you have to get the vehicle inspected. In order to do that, you have to have proof of insurance. In our county we have safety and emissions inspection. One of six in the state that does emissions. Once you pass that, it's off to the county tax office to pay the fees, prove you actually live in Texas, and get your temporary tags. Once both vehicles are done, we both can get our Texas DL. DLs are issued by the Department of Public Safety and the advice from several people is to make an appointment as they do three walk ins a day.

I'm going to do my Tacoma tomorrow and see how it goes. Once I've figured out all the mistakes, I'll do my wife's RAV4 later in the week.

I've seen them jack up the front in MA. They wiggle the wheel, pull and then spin it. This was at a shop near my work that almost failed me for front plate paint damage like 2 years ago.

Yea they check the ball joints and tie rods in MA but in NY they pull a wheel to check brake pad life
