I dont think Chateauguay alone is a good idea, some spotting makes it much more comfortable.

Id say 3 bears/vw is enough wheelin for the drive. I had a 2-2.5 hour drive to the RI spot and I dont think it was worth it.upload_2024-7-2_9-19-24.png

That photo is the second riverbed, not Chateguay. Chateguay was what we did before lunch.
I'd say THAT part is doable alone.

RI Spot depends on what mess you can get into. There's a lot out there. I'd say it's worth that drive ONCE, if you can get a decent day out there and not just go out to the rock climb and then leave. Worth it to me for a shake down spot and it's only about 45 minutes :D

I don't know if Matt will agree - I'd say the trails alone, knowing Chateguay and some surrounding trails, and knowing-ish 3 bears, and not knowing VW hill - I like Chateguay better. BUT, the NH/3 bears routes are a close second. And you get to join us for the shenanigans. :D

Not trying to knock Ma bell by saying this, but Ma bell isn't worth the drive. 3 bears and Chateguay are both worth the drive.

There's more to Chateguay than we did this year in VT, some cool stuff, and some that I wouldn't dream of taking anything less than a buggy on  It's a fun little river bed, you follow class IV (VI? Whatever VT is) out to the river bed, bang a right and go up the river bed for about a mile. It's a lot of pick your own adventure, left is easy, right is hard here, etc.

Left instead brings you down the river by the lean to. Cool spot, but if you don't know where the track goes by the beaver dam, you could end up underwater.

I'd say tag along to a trip we're planning out that way. Usually the first weekend in June. This year we pushed it to the second weekend since the gates might still be closed on May 31 (Friday) to get to our campsite.

By the way, that second riverbed Jack posted the picture of, THIS is what it USED to look like in that spot. That's all washed away now. I wouldn't have recommended that riverbed alone before it got f'd last year. Now, not a chance.

Yes that's why I threw out that weekend instead of one immediately before or after AOAA :)

Ross has real kids he can't put into a crate.

Not without CPS being involved, at least.

I just like going up there in the fall too. Other than AOAA, any weekend in September or October could work. I'll say NO on Sep 1 (Labor day weekend) and the 7/8 weekend after labor day weekend. Otherwise send it. Ross what days work for you? I was planning to go up to that Granville site the weekend of Oct 5/6, but with a hike instead of wheeling. If y'all want to plan that weekend, I probably wouldn't wheel my truck anyway (boring old fart I know), so I could join for camping for the weekend while y'all wheel. But that's all boondocking and flexible based on weather/whatever I want to do. :)

I'd say it's iffy with aoaa being so close to that, but it's also only an hour and a half from me so I'll drive up for the day if that's what I gotta do lmao. @Roody take a look at the calendar and see what works, maybe we can rope @JDUB-Fabrication in :boink:
    No, THIS is
